PG: Mario Chalmers (32-36 MPG)/ Earl Watson (10-12 MPG)/ Bassy (DNP-2 MPG)
SG: Eric Gordon (36-38 MPG)/ Martell webster (8-10 MPH)
SF: Trevor Ariza (34-36 MPG)/ Martell Webster (6-10 MPG)
PF: Beasley (32-34 MPG)/ sideshow bob (4-8 MPG)/ JJ Hickson (rest MPG)
C: Gortat (26-32 MPG)/ sideshow (10-20 MPG)
I think a core of Gordon, Ariza and Beasley should serve you well going forward. And I, myself, am particularly high on Gordon after watching the rookie rise above it all during a generally torturous Clippers campaign.
Clearly both the actual Mavericks and Magic agree with your assessment of Gortat, so I'm willing to go along. In any case Varejao could start in his stead.
I think the squad most has room to improve at the point? You may have been better served taking a flier on a starter from the '09 crop of guards, rather than Chalmers. If only to take one more swing for the fences. That said the kid has a winning pedigree, is playoff tested, and shows great shot selection. But I'd also prefer more separation at the position, as I could see Telfair or Watson starting just as easily. (And Watson has had trouble in the past accepting a limited role.)
I see Ariza becoming de facto team leader. But I wonder if you agree? Team captains?
