This is probably the saddest day of my fan-life since the Lakers won their third title in a row in 2002.

For real?  Is it personality-motivated or do you hate Sheed's game and love Baby's?

If it's the latter, I have to disagree.  Baby rebounds a little, shoots a lot, makes a little and he's set to make a lot of money. If the Spurs are signing him, it means they aren't signing McDyess, and that makes me happy.

And Sheed is a good rebounder and doesn´t shoot too much? Yeah, right.

I´ve lost all my confidence in Danny Ainge.

In fact, I want him fired, if this is true.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

The Spurs signed power forward Marcus Haislip.  Would they still go after Baby?

Baby might be at his highest value right now.  A guy that is usually fat but trims down in a free agent year is usually dangerous.

And when KG went down didn't he only average less than 6 boards a game?  With a guy his size I would hope for more than ten and then less points.  I think he was around 15 points though.  If they could replace him with McDyess it would be pretty sweet.

The only problem if we lose him is that Perk would be the only muscle guy.  It's nice having Baby to push Howard, Big Z and now Shaq out of the box.

I don't think this changes anything about not making the QO to Leon. If anything it makes it less questionable as our front court just got a lot better.

I agree the front court is greatly improved tonight.

But, at minimum Davis's departure frees up another roster spot, and increases the odds that Ainge wastes Powe's money on a Robert Swift or Michael Sweetney type.

Or on Powe himself.

even with an extra roster spot freed up if we don't re-sign Baby, you still think a minimum contract to Leon is a waste of money?

I've never been worried about the money aspect. It has been about having the roster spot available for Danny to explore better and healthy alternatives... that he likes of course.

I want to keep Powe, but until the above happens, he simply can't be taking up a roster space.

So if Baby is not here, it increases the chances of a spot for him being available.

For example, if the NBA allowed to have more than 15 roster spots, I'm absolutely certain that Powe would've been offered a contract already.

if this is true, then i think we definitely need to re-sign Leon. the reason being that we will be signing Big Baby's replacement with the vet minimum and that's not going to get you a player anywhere near the level of Baby.

at least with Leon, there is the chance he comes back this season and returns to his form.

Co-sign.

Ainge's decision not to offer Powe a qualifying offer looks worse and worse. Still, Wallace (!) can split his minutes between the 4/5 so Celtics should manage without Davis.

And however this shakes out I wish Baby the best.
It is one thing to say Danny should offer Powe a min contract, but to say he should have extended a qualifying offer is just a horrible idea. Why would you sign a player for more money than you have to?

Danny not offering a qualifying offer will never look bad, because he can still sign Powe on July 7 for the min if he wants.

Yeah, that's the line.

But, legitimate rotation players willing to sign for the veteran's minimum are few and far between. Powe is a proven winner with an outsized heart, and still young. So many are willing to gamble on projects - O'Bryant?, Miles? Now Swift or Sweetney? - why not bet on Leon's return to form. Our nine man rotation is already shaping up nicely.

Who have you got your eye on?

We still have the LLE and sign and trade alternatives.

Except trades assume out going players and barring a one for two or two for three deal involving Perkins or Ray (no please) we won't fill our remaining roster spots that way.

I'd also prefer we spend our LLE on a swing man (Grant Hill?) or back up PG.

So which F.A. front court player do you prefer to Powe?

It's a daydream at this point. Ainge said some pretty hard words to him and I don't see him going back on them.

"Good luck with another team"

Those words would ring in my head hard if I was Powe and DA isn't exactly the most emotional type of guy.
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

We have young assets and expiring contracts... those things are quite valuable.

I preffer one that is healthy and can play. We'll see when the time comes.
