Worried a little about our big man depth.

When we won the title we had PJ, Powe, and Baby backing up Perk and KG.

Now we (so far) only have Sheed backing up Perk and KG (coming off the most serious injury of his career).

I'd strongly consider matching the contract for Baby.

and Scals, but yeah we need at least one more reliable big...personally I would love that to be Leon.

I think KG, Perk, Sheed, Scals and some vet min guy could hold the fort down until he hopefully returns in Feb.
I think KG, Perk, Sheed, Scals, and BABY could hold the fort down until Powe returns in Feb.  No matter the price.
Scratch that, i'd really rather sign a vet min and use Scals in a PG trade.

well, yeah...i'm just saying if they decide not to match on Baby. I still want both Baby and Leon back...

Can we trust Tanguay???

I have mixed emotions about BBD leaving AND Hill staying.

I think the reason Tanguay and others have no info of Baby staying is because Ainge's best position if for the Celtics to appear to not want BBD, thus encouraging the lowest offer and resulting in the easiest match.

If DA really didn't care, he would probably be calling press conferences telling us all how "clutch he was in relief of KG, and OMG what ice in his veins.  We need him and we'll match any offer." That would help drive up the price and screw over some other team's cap.

whatever, I am psyched by today's C's news and just covered in optimism.

Go Celts!
"You're skating on pretty thin ice around here, McGee!"
"Sounds like the ice's problem."

2 for the Show!
GO CELTS!

if this is true, then i think we definitely need to re-sign Leon. the reason being that we will be signing Big Baby's replacement with the vet minimum and that's not going to get you a player anywhere near the level of Baby.

at least with Leon, there is the chance he comes back this season and returns to his form.

Co-sign.

Ainge's decision not to offer Powe a qualifying offer looks worse and worse. Still, Wallace (!) can split his minutes between the 4/5 so Celtics should manage without Davis.

And however this shakes out I wish Baby the best.
It is one thing to say Danny should offer Powe a min contract, but to say he should have extended a qualifying offer is ludicrous. Why would you sign a player for more money than you have to?

Danny not offering a qualifying offer will never look bad, because he can still sign Powe on July 7 for the min if he wants.
The reason you would sign him to at least 105% of his previous contract is because anything less is stingy.  It's really kind of an insult to offer him less than we did last season.  What if he has a break-out season and someone else gives him an offer?  He's probably gonna think, hey why would i stay with this greedy team?  Honestly, what else are the Celtics gonna do with their money?  I would however object to offering him anymore than a 1 year contract, seeing as his future is foggy.
Also, I'm not sure if this is true, but Powe won't lose his Bird Rights unless he signs with another team right?
The guy is trying to recover from a serious injury, so a smaller contract could be reasonable.

If a team has reasonable confidence in Powe and wants him for multiple years, than an above minimum contract is reasonable. If it is just for this year, minimum is all that makes sense since we do not know if he will be able to play effectively this season.

The team better be greedy. Greedy about acquiring talent that can contribute to a title this year.

U can't fall in love with your own players.  Simply put Baby is just "too little" as the old commercial goes.

If Baby wants to go and we keep Leon, hey that's not so bad really, but we pretty much have to try to trade or ditch Tony Allen, Pruit and either Bill Walker or Giddens for players we will use this year. I guess Danny would have been trying to do that anyway...

We should be able to get away with using Robert Swift at the 5 a bit in the regular season. And the way the refs were calling games, small ball was working for everyone too.

Do the Spurs have anything we'd want in a sign and trade? I'm sure they'd prefer to not use their mid level exception to get Baby if they could.

Best I think teams will offer Leon is a 1 year + 1 team's option year.

“We like Big Baby a lot, and we have every intention of keeping him.”

Danny Ainge on July 4th.

I understand that Tanquay said something in his tweet, but should we not pay attention to what the GM said?

if baby walks..boston needs another big on the frontline to play behind KG. Scal is more of a shooting forward and we need another banger inside. i also dont think the spurs offer him their MLE. if it is minutes then that might be his reason. but i expect anything 4 mil and under boston will match. they need baby to back up KG. Scal cannot do this

ride it out until Powe is healthy.

in a perfect world...danny would offer leon league min. and powe would be ready by january. then you can deal scal and tony at the trade deadline for whatever you need

I think we'll match.  A $5mil contract is good to have on the books.  We can use him in a trade at the deadline if we need to.

i think having baby would be a very good thing. allows the PF to be deep and physical. also allows tony and scal to become trade chips.

A 5 million dollar contract on the books isn't a great thing if you get back a 3 million dollar player...

That's what you think he's worth.  Not sure what the Celtics think.
