I don't understand this trade. You downgrade a starter position (PG) in order to get a backup SF who is really a starter caliber, will require a huge contract, and probably won't be happy coming off the bench. Erm, WAT?

You don't necessarily downgrade the starter position of PG that bad when you consider the FA market.

Also, Gay is 22 and a very talented player capable of creating his own shot and might be in the plans to be in the fold for the future of our team. The arrival of Gay could also make a Ray trade easier, while still keeping the same amount of talent around the cornerstones of KG and PP.

All this trade talk surrounding Rondo stinks. There isn't a player on this team I enjoy watching more. The only way trading him makes sense to me is if he's the uncoachable player Ford suggested he is. If Rondo is the potential cancer they're making him out to be I guess he has to  go.  :'(

These rumors are becoming hard to shrug off.
So ironic that Marbury was the good teammate and Rondo was the cancer.

That's it!  Marbury was possessed and the demon simply transferred to another body!

Well let's exorcise that demon and keep Rondo. Give it to Scal he's strong enough to fight it off.

The trade downgrades the talent at PG barring another move.

I hate the hyperbole before the draft.

Another day on Celticsblog, another absurd rumor that everyone somehow believes...

Yeah... we're gonna trade our ring toting 23 year old huge upside starting pure point guard, for a couple of lottery busts who have never sniffed the playoffs...  That would go over well with Paul and KG....

They are not lottery busts, have you ever watched Gay play? Also can you really be a bust if you are under 23 or under 21 in Conley's case.
It doesn't happen because according to Marc Spears twitter the Celtics would also want the number 2 pick in the draft. If we can get that deal we should do it in a heartbeat.

Take Conley out, give us the #2 instead, and I'd make the trade.

If this trade were to happen maybe Gay's presence here is more of a precursor to a trade of Paul Pierce and not one of Ray Allen. Think about it. Pierce goes to Houston for Tracey McGrady. The Celtics sign Jason Kidd and Joe Smith to one year deals.

Kidd/Conley/Pruitt
Ray/House/Tony
Gay/McGrady/Walker
KG/Smith/Leon
Perk/Baby

Now Kidd, Pruitt, Ray, Tony, House, McGrady, Walker and Smith all expire at the end of the year. That leaves Conley, Gay, KG, Leon, Perk and Baby. Let's say, guesstimating here that's $28 million. The C's could then have plenty of room for a max contract guy like D Wade and then some left over for an MLE sized contract guy. Then could extend on Gay and Perk and enter 2010-2011 with this core:

Conley
Wade
Gay
KG/Leon
Perk/Baby

How many wins did those two 'explosive' players rack up together in Memphis?

Horrible deal for us, it closes the Pierce/KG/Allen championship window by bringing in unproven guys and expecting big things from them.

Not that i would trade Paul for Tracey anyhow, but ive read Tracey will not be ready to play until a month or so after the regular season start.
