Sure, they put up the big money for Garnett and it worked out for them.  Garnett was terrific.  But now they are nickel and diming everyone else, notwithstanding their hugely profitable championship year.  Piggy piggy piggy.  If Posey doesn't return and if there is an injury to Pierce or Ray Allen, their alternatives right now are Giddens, Pruitt and Bill Walker, whose knees may be as bad as Tony's.

so because they won't offer a player who is the 10th or 11th on thier bench, who also has massive injury concerns, is lackluster on offense, and who's only plus is good defense a vasty overpriced contract, you already know how thier going to handle thier other more valuable free agents? amazing stuff.

Again, prove to me that he's suddenly going to recover into the guy from that 30 game stretch two and a half years ago.

I can prove pretty convincliy he's not worth a mid level contract of 3 million dollars as currently constructed. call me crazy, but even for a very good defensive gaurd, for 3 million, i'd like to see;

-some sort of jumpshot

- the ability to dribble

- soemthing less than leading the team in 3 bad stats

- be higher than the 11th option off the bench.

Does this give Boston more flexibility in using TA in a sign and trade?  What is his max contract the Celtics could use?

We're still subject to the Base Year Compensation rules.  We can give him a 25% raise from last year's salary without worrying about BYC, which is approximately $2.25 million.

So combine him with Scali, Davis (or Powe) and create roughly 6.2 million trade piece.  Keep TA's contract short (2 years) and find a team looking to make room for 2010.

I'm not opposed to TA comign back, i'm opposed to this view that the celtics are satan if it's not at 3 million dollars.

In my opinion, there going to make a run at TA, but have determined, correctly i think, that his value is more like 1.5 million for 2-3 years.

now some other team might give him 3 or 4 million for 5 years or something, but to me, it makes perfect sense for the celtics not to extend TA an overpriced saftey net in case that team doesn't come calling.

Could it possibly be that you just aren't being honest with yourself in your assessment of Tony's current value and abilities? Could it be that the C's are doing the "right thing" by TA for his free agent chances in saying outwardly that they value TA and want him back so that another team will be more likely to sign the guy?! The alternative would be to speak the truth which is that TA is an athletic shell of his former self that may not return to anywhere near the physical specimen he was at one time. That he has a huge amount of flaws and deficiencies in his game at his best, therefore to commit anything other than chump change would be a stupid move by the Celtics organization. This would have been speaking the truth about the guy and would have hurt his value in the marketplace. Maybe the C's were trying to do the right thing by saying what they did and putting a positive spin out there for him. The glass may not be half empty Brick...

I've been researching that for big men. Gadzuric is all that you can get. He's the only one with 3 years left in the books. Not sure if I want to trade for another winger to stay with Garnett/Powe/Perkins/LLE Center as the only post players.

I realize that Tony Allen has his supporters and detractors on this forum, but failing to extend a qualifying offer to Tony Allen is a cheap, chintzy move that is beneath the Celtics franchise.  It's like something Donald Sterling and the Clippers would do.

Tony Allen is a heck of a defender and has been a good teammate.  Even his detractors remember how well he was playing before his injury.  And $2.7 million is peanuts by NBA standards (even if you take the luxury tax into account), especially for a 4th year player with TA's skills.

And to make matters worse, Rivers lied when asked about Tony Allen.  He said that he wanted him back, and implied that the club was interested in having Tony back.  He said that Giddens was not drafted to replace TA. 

Ubuntu or no ubuntu, Rivers is a prevaricating snake who talks out of both sides of his mouth.  As in the situation where he lied about the reasons why Telfair did not return for the second half in NY, he just made matters worse by being untruthful.

If I were James Posey, I would think long and hard about entering into a long-term contract with a franchise capable of acting in this matter.  Shame on you, Celtics.

I stand by what I said over a month ago - if TA has an NBA contract come the beginning of the regular season, I will quit posting on all forums forever.
