The team just went well over the luxury tax, brought in multiple free agents, and won a championship. Now, you want to call them cheap? You want to call them disloyal?
What about Tony's disloyalty, injuring himself and essentially costing the team a year's worth of his services because he got into an off-the-court scuffle that he should have avoided. Where's the loyalty in that?
Tony Allen isn't that great of a player. He led the team in turnovers per minute last season, led all of our guards in personal fouls per minute, and was last among our guards in assists per minute. The team can replace him for less than $2.7 million (in terms of salary), whether through our rookies or via another free agent. We won a championship without a serious contribution from Tony, and I'm not wringing my hands if he's gone.
I guess I don't understand the point in committing yourself to $5.4 million (in actual dollars, including the luxury tax) for a player that you really don't want. Doc has always been a Tony fan and supporter, but I think Danny feels differently, and for good reason.
