Dare I say it...Antoine?

The problem with actually re-acquiring Twoine for a 3rd time is that we would no longer be able to discuss bringing back Twoine.  It's way much more fun to just fantasize about it.

What I thought was absolutely hilarious last night...

Paul Pierce, at one point said (I'm paraphrashing, but I'm [dang] close to his actual words) "Hell, I got within two games of the Finals playing with Antoine Walker, I had no doubt I could win it all with Ray and KG!"

I know he didn't mean for it to be a diss on 'Toine...  but that's how it came across, as the most backhanded compliment ever.

I was a huge Toine fan when he was here, and part of me would still like him back.  Still, I don't see how it works.  If anything, with P.J. potentially leaving, the C's need more bangers down low.  They already have undersized big men in Baby and Powe.  The other option, of course, would be to play Toine at the 3 where he could be an interesting scoring option off the bench.  But I don't like that option either, because as last night proves, defense wins championships, and Toine at the 3 is not a good idea defensively. 

So while it's a sentimental thought, it has no real world applicability. 

Scoring option? the man managed 8 points a game on the worst team in the league by shooting .363 from the field. He makes cassell look like a combo of good eddie and good rondo. He's done. out. has nothing contribute to a contender in any way. the defending champs can have a zillion better options as a 3 off the bench.

Done?  How would YOU know that?  That T-Wolves team is a rebuilding team.  Toine would be better served on a playoff-bound(or an on-the-fringe playoff team) team.  They stopped giving him minutes 'cause they were going youth the entire way.   

Toine won't be back in Celtic Green anytime soon but I have a feeling we'll be seeing Toine playing in the postseason once more in the near future.   He's not "Done", yet.

the point was if you can't average points on a team where your allowed tot ake as many shots as you want, limited PT is probley going to be unproductive.

Antoine's career is winding down. His days as a rotation player on a playoff team are over. He can still be a rotation player on a lottery team, a glue guy, the veteran that holds the kids together and offers some early guidance to them.

He won't and shouldn't play another game in a Celtics uniform. Scalabrine offers more to the C's than Toine could.

That's almost as big a surprise as wdleehi posting in "Doc Detractor(for those that don't care for the other word)" thread or MikeDfromNP posting in an "I love Rondo" thread.

I would actually like to take him back for 10 mins a game off the bench....However, why do we need another undersized PF with baby and leon (and maybe scal) here...it is not a need...actually its something we already have to much of


We need a

backup center
2nd or 3rd PG to replace sam if gabe isnt the man
an athletic scorer off the bench to spell ray/paul - (a tony allen type with a better IQ)

A lot of guys here almost had a stroke when Sam took those ill-advised shots in LA.  You'd endanger the lives of many guys here if you bring Antoine back.  Watching Toine's shot selection are enough to give even casual fans a cardiac arrest.

To the people who are saying "No" because Antoine "can't produce" on Minnesota - it's Minnesota.  There is no cohesiveness to that team.  I'm sure Antoine isn't too motivated there.

To the guys that say Toine takes too many bad shots - how easy people forget just how important he was to Miami's Finals run just 2 years ago....  Shots aren't ill-advised if they are limited and more importantly, if they go in.

To the people who are saying "No" because "we already have a bunch of undersized PFs" - that would presupposes that 2 of those 3 guys might be moved elsewhere (Scal, BBD, Powe).  I for one truly believes Toine is more versatile and could consistently be more effective than any of those 3, and we could probably get more size/strength elsewhere (a la in the mold of Perk, Garbajosa).

Thought it would go without saying that the Antoine move would be one of many, but apparently it wasn't as obvious as I had thought.

I love Toine.

Plain and simple.

However, when Toine came to the Garden and didn't visit Paul in the locker room, that's when I thought Toine was a bit of a punk.

Perhaps he didn't know he was welcome, perhaps he didn't think he could make it through security, but at least ring your boy Paul and say hello.

Anyways, he's a skilled player who can play both the 3 and the 4, and if he had Perk's "i'm tougher than you and will out muscle you" mentality then i'd consider him for a roster spot, deep on the bench.

I think more than anything I miss his shimmey shake, which I guess isn't saying a lot.
