To the people who are saying "No" because Antoine "can't produce" on Minnesota - it's Minnesota.  There is no cohesiveness to that team.  I'm sure Antoine isn't too motivated there.

To the guys that say Toine takes too many bad shots - how easy people forget just how important he was to Miami's Finals run just 2 years ago....  Shots aren't ill-advised if they are limited and more importantly, if they go in.

To the people who are saying "No" because "we already have a bunch of undersized PFs" - that would presupposes that 2 of those 3 guys might be moved elsewhere (Scal, BBD, Powe).  I for one truly believes Toine is more versatile and could consistently be more effective than any of those 3, and we could probably get more size/strength elsewhere (a la in the mold of Perk, Garbajosa).

Thought it would go without saying that the Antoine move would be one of many, but apparently it wasn't as obvious as I had thought.
Just because someone did something 2 years ago, it should have no relevance on what he can do for us next year. Supporting Sam Cassell's acquistion taught me that.

Steve Francis was putting up 15 pts and 5 asts per game in 2006, do you want him on this team too?

Or how about Rueben Patterson. He was like 13pts and 4 rebs a game in 2006. Do you want him on the 2009 roster as well?

Is it any coincidence that all 3 guys Patterson, Walker, and Francis are around 32, have never been considered workout warriors or gym rats, and have games that have fallen off the edge of the planet since 2006? I don't!

Antoine in Boston is as dumb now as it was before the trading deadline and before the season started last year. No, change that, dumber.

I love Antoine, and I will always have a special place in my heart for the guy. But his days in Boston have come to a close, and I think it should be that way.

We don't need a 6'9'' Sam Cassell.

Wow there's a surprise, PSquared posting in a "Bring back Toine" thread!!

That's almost as big a surprise as wdleehi posting in "Doc Detractor(for those that don't care for the other word)" thread or MikeDfromNP posting in an "I love Rondo" thread.

JK P*P JK   ;D ;D

It is about as surprising as nickagneta post on a thread to complain about what someone else posted.   :o

I was a huge Toine fan when he was here, and part of me would still like him back.  Still, I don't see how it works.  If anything, with P.J. potentially leaving, the C's need more bangers down low.  They already have undersized big men in Baby and Powe.  The other option, of course, would be to play Toine at the 3 where he could be an interesting scoring option off the bench.  But I don't like that option either, because as last night proves, defense wins championships, and Toine at the 3 is not a good idea defensively.

So while it's a sentimental thought, it has no real world applicability.

Scoring option? the man managed 8 points a game on the worst team in the league by shooting .363 from the field. He makes cassell look like a combo of good eddie and good rondo. He's done. out. has nothing contribute to a contender in any way. the defending champs can have a zillion better options as a 3 off the bench.

Done?  How would YOU know that?  That T-Wolves team is a rebuilding team.  Toine would be better served on a playoff-bound(or an on-the-fringe playoff team) team.  They stopped giving him minutes 'cause they were going youth the entire way.

Toine won't be back in Celtic Green anytime soon but I have a feeling we'll be seeing Toine playing in the postseason once more in the near future.   He's not "Done", yet.

the point was if you can't average points on a team where your allowed tot ake as many shots as you want, limited PT is probley going to be unproductive.

Huh?  I've actually followed the wolves a little bit last season and I saw no evidence that Toine was "allowed" to take as many shots as he wants.  Their head coach was giving those shots to Gomes and Big Al.

Oh and when he was in Miami(where  he got that "limited PT" you are referring to), he did alright coming off the bench.

I really don't see your point here, if you have any.   ???

anyway, BrickJames said all that needed to be said on this matter which I concur 100% with.

(by the way, to add to BrickJames post :

To those who think Antoine is a 6'9 Sam Cassell :  Sam became useless NBA Garbage 5 years ago when he should've retired.  Whatever Sam contributed during these playoffs and finals, I'll bet my Jeep Cherokee Toine would've contributed way more positively than the Fugly Alien. )

Toine WON'T return to Boston but he WILL return to the postseason on another Team.   That, I can definitely see happen....and he CAN contribute as a "glue guy" off the bench....

....unlike Mr.Cassell.

I think there's a better than good chance that Toine has played his already played last game in the NBA.

Nah! I think Antione will latch on somewhere as a bench player on a playoff team. I'm thinking possibly Phoenix for the veteran minimum.

There is only one postive in bringing Toine back. It would take the pressure off as far as repeating is concerned.

I really remember the unique way he shoots those 3's (not like they go in that much anyways) and it always bouncing off the backrim with the crowd seemingly silent, and the wiggle/shake whatever (awesome!).

Anyways, I remember talk about him being deserving of an all-star nod, but on a bad team back then.

Well, we should win another championship for Antoine, because he was memorable during the Pitino + era. ha

For now, bye Antoine.

Everyone's discussing Antoine's effectiveness offensively, but this team is built on defense first. How's he going to fit in on that side of the ball?

To the people who are saying "No" because "we already have a bunch of undersized PFs" - that would presupposes that 2 of those 3 guys might be moved elsewhere (Scal, BBD, Powe).  I for one truly believes Toine is more versatile and could consistently be more effective than any of those 3, and we could probably get more size/strength elsewhere (a la in the mold of Perk, Garbajosa).

Thought it would go without saying that the Antoine move would be one of many, but apparently it wasn't as obvious as I had thought.

-Tell Jefferson (21 / 11 and 1.5 blocks, 50%) that you can't produce in Minny

-I'm pretty sure we just won the title by employing an entire roster of super competitive players who would kill themselves for ANY team. Pierce, Allen, Garnett, Posey, even Scal, etc. have never taken seasons off because they were unmotivated by being on bad teawms.

-.363% from the field, .530% free throws, 45.5 true shooting...the shots are not going in

-If by "more versatile" you mean "can brick it from close AND far away," well, i'm sure we could have powe or bbd do that too.

-Better than Powe? let's see, in 33% more minutes than Powe got this year:
8pts, 3.6 rbs, .363 shooting, .530 foul shots, 8.2 shots per game
Powe:
7.9 pts, 4.1 rbs, .570 shooting, .710 foul shots, 4.8 shots per game
So, in significantly less time, with nearly half the shot attempts, powe equaled walker's scoring, outrebounded him (remember these are "power" forwards here) and did so with incredibly more efficiency. I'm guessing you don't like PER because it wouldn't capture the "intangibles" of someone like antoine, but the difference is staggering: 20.97 to 11.39.
Oh, and don't forget this number: $687,456 or $8,329,640

He actually had similar production to BBD. so walker produced about as well as an overweight rookie. yay.
