As Trifecta so eloquently pointed out, (TP, by the way), upon watching it over and over, you can tell that Horford was saying: "We're coming back ... we're coming back", (to the Garden), and Pierce was saying to Horford with his gesture, that they'll need three more wins to seal the deal. I honestly don't think Pierce would be stupid enough to use a gang gesture on national TV ... it makes no sense whatsoever, and could very well jeopardize his career and his life.

TP for the vid.  had been looking for it myself.   didn't seem that pierce was saying anything while flashing the signal.

Okay, after watching the replay for the first time...  that was probably meant as a threatening gesture.  Whether you want to call it a gang sign is up to you; I'm sure no one here thinks Pierce is in a gang or affiliated with one, but that doesn't mean he's not familiar with gestures.  I couldn't tell you if that was or wasn't a sign of the Crips, the Bloods, or whoever else.  However, to me it's pretty clear from the way Pierce was strutting with his "tough guy" pose, and the way he threw his hand, that that was meant as a threatening gesture, rather than a cocky one.

That doesn't look like it was meant as "three" anything to me.  Of course, it's absolutely impossible to mind read Pierce's intent, but objectively, I can see where the "gang sign" people are coming from.  I didn't want to weigh in until I could watch what happened a few more times, but having watched it again, those are my thoughts.

For some reason I've never been able to watch youtube videos on this site so I have no idea whether video is a better view or not than the previous one. Here's the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGAPpfrf4fk

They give a slow mo replay of Pierce's signal right at the end of the clip

..... Hey that's pretty cool. You just paste the youtube address and it comes automatically in the post. Didn't know that.

He overthought it Redz that was the problem!

I don't normally go to the trouble of letting people know when I give them a tommy point but this one cracked me up. Great post, TP. Very funny.

This thread is an embarassment. Paul has had enough misfortune with thugs in his life to even consider using a gang sign. He knows the reprocussions. On the Horford subject, Mike Gorman made a comment in the game 2 blowout that Al was taunting the Celtics bench after scoring in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 17. Ray immediately came down the other end and drained a 3. I don't mind emotion but don't show up the other team when you guys are getting waxed.

Agreed, embarrassment. We're supposed to be supporting this guy, after all the time he's given the club this is the first time I've heard anything about Paul flashing gang signs, and even if he did it's so irrelevant I could care less. If that's his environment or if that's an inside thing he has going with the Hawks then let it go, considering nobody knows if he did or did not intend for it to be that, and because the only people talking about it are us, his loyal fans, let it rest. If we can't figure it out neither can the people that shouldn't see it.

Comment on YouTube vid from some guy

Are you kidding me that's not the blood sign the 3 fingers stand for ass and the thumb and index finger stand for hole so he is calling him an Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. duh

I was reading a Lakers board, and they were speculating that it was an LA Bloods sign.  Who the heck knows?  Whatever it was, the best thing for Pierce to do in the future is to walk back to the bench, and if he has to respond, he should do it verbally.
