Joe has weighed in on the so-called beef.

Quote
Mazzulla said he has no issue with the two exchanging words.

?It doesn?t necessarily make you sad,? he said. ?That?s just the nature of the space that we?re in. You have a choice to decide what we?re going to focus on. Once a Celtic, always a Celtic. Once you?ve left this place better than you found it, you cannot forget that. You have a gratitude and a perspective of that and we focus on the present moment. We can?t let a day go by where we don?t focus on Jayson?s greatness as a player and what he does for this organization and what he does on and off the court. That?s our guy now.

?It doesn?t necessarily make you sad, it forces you to choose what you?re going to focus on. You have to focus on the attitude and perspective of a great former Celtic and we?re going to choose to focus on the greatness of Jayson and what he?s done for our organization.?

It became apparent during the media session that Mazzulla had reached a breaking point with questions on this topic. He wants to focus on a team that?s coming off a solid victory over the defending champions, but has much room for improvement.

?I?m trying to handle this as best I can,? he said. ?I feel like I?ve answered it. [Brown?s] a former Celtic. He?s left this place in a better place. We?re grateful. Every Celtic is welcome in this building. It doesn?t matter who it is. We?re focused on the current Celtics. We?re focused on Jayson Tatum. He?s our best player. He?s our leader. He?s an unbelievable superstar. He?s a high-character guy. We have others that we?re focused on. I?m not trying to be disrespectful. I feel like I?ve answered it as best I could over the course of four months.

?This is not about that anymore.?

I thought Joe actually handled that really well. I saw that interview segment and he had answered what sounded like the same question twice prior to being asked it again for the third time (phrased in a different way). I can see why the guy would be like ?yeah lets all move on pls?

Ive seen a lot of people who hate Tatum describe him as corny, but honestly, JB is coming off as pretty corny for me. He isnt trolling like Embiid. Just seems like a guy who takes himself way too seriously and is all up in his feelings.

I get why (TP to Ozgod and Muzzy for terrific POVs). Im just saying, Im not a fan of it.

JT didn't fight for JB to stay on the team. And that he didn't know JB was being shopped/for what return was the "cap". That's all. Can we all just admit Tatum doesn't care about JB now? And that's Tatum's right he doesn't have to like JB.

But as JB said the PR puff stuff trying to paint the story different is BS. Both just need to let it be and move on. These guys were never close friends. We can all understand having co-workers we don't have any personal relationship with just all business.

Except that?s not what he said. JT was shocked to find out that the team JB was traded to was Philly. As was everyone else.
And that's why we got the Cap and PR comment.

It?s asinine for anyone to think that JT knew ahead of time that JB was getting traded to the 76ers. It makes zero sense. Did Tatum know that Brad was looking to trade JB this summer? Sure. The whole world did.
Star players are usually kept in the loop on trades. It's actually asinine to not believe Tatum was consulted. JB at least thinks so, along with other people who cover the team.

I am not sure I understand what you are basing your comments on.  You think that Tatum should have lobbied Brad Stevens to not trade Brown in general or just for the PHI deal?  This assumes that Tatum was privy to the details of the deals that Stevens was considering.  You think that Tatum knew in advance of the trade being announced what the particulars of the PHI deal were?  And that he had some opportunity to influence whether BOS made the deal or not?

I don't think Tatum wanted Brown to go anymore than he wanted Holiday or Porzingis or Horford or Smart to go.  But what do you expect Tatum or any player to do?  And do you really think that team management should consider the opinions of players when building a roster?  Do you think Stevens should have discussed it with Tatum before trying to trade Brown for Giannis?  And should Tatum have fought that trade too?
I told you what I'm basing my comments on JB and other players as well as people who cover the team. I didn't say Tatum wanted him gone. Again for the x time no one has said that. All people have said was Tatum knew and Tatum never stepped in voice a stop of it. And all the other players are not JB. JB is a different situation than those players. JB was Nightwing.

OK, you have clarified, your "beef" with Tatum is that you believe he knew BOS was trying to trade Brown (everyone knew), and even was "consulted" on whether to trade him, and that he should have somehow stopped the trade?

Sorry, I don't buy any of this.  Of course Tatum knew, at least after all the talk around the failed Giannis trade.  I do not believe he was "consulted".  Maybe "informed", but he already knew, like everyone else.  All this is speculation whether former players say this or writers or anyone.  Tatum has said that he wants no part of personnel decisions.

But I differ in that I have no expectation that Tatum should have somehow stepped in to stop the team from trading Brown to PHI or MIL or anyone else, whether informed or consulted or kept in the dark.  Would it have been OK with you if he didn't step in to voice opposition to the Giannis trade, which we all agree he knew about if he ever looked at his phone?  How about a trade for Cooper Flagg?  If consulted by the team, what should Tatum have said about that trade?

I am not trying to single you out, I am just trying to understand.

When have I said I have a problem with Tatum not getting involved? Stop putting words in my mouth. I clearly said he has the right to not get involved. People are judging him for that and that's the PR and Cap. Stop trying to call me out for what is Tatum's choice was. I have said both guys should move on. You are try to make this about Tatum hate. I only explained the ?beef? and not my beef because again I believe Tatum has the right to not get involved. Hope you get it and stop try to over think my post from some other perspective its getting tiring responding to it

Tatum wants to move on because he has a guilty conscience?

I think it's on both guys to really be positive and truthful. They can both leave the fairytale stuff out. They need to look at themselves from a responsibility stand point, in not winning enough caused the roster turn over so much.

I'm sure it's awkward for him to talk about because now he's got a teammate who came over in that trade.  If he says, yeah the trade sucked, then how will Paul George feel about those comments?

He has to choose his words carefully when answering these questions.

He probably wants to move on because Brown is no longer on the team and a teammate and a new season has started.

Apparently, even Baron Davis has an opinion on the matter.

Baron Davis says Jayson Tatum tried to stat-pad his way to Finals MVP and that Jaylen Brown winning the award crushed him

?I saw it in the Finals when Brown was gonna get it. Jayson Tatum kept firing at the end of the last game. Everybody who?s played this game, and they mama, knows the series was wrapped up. They knew Jayson Tatum was trying to get that Finals MVP, man. That sh*t went to Jaylen Brown. That hurt that kid, man. That crushed him.?

He isn't the first former player to say that. But I'm pretty sure any leader of the team can feel like they are worthy. Think Steph not getting one his first three of his run was way rougher.

Scal shared some new info on his Sirius XM show with Frank Isola, suggesting that Jaylen gave the Celtics a list of demands ?or else? trade him. He talked about it a little bit at the pregame show on NBC Sports Boston. It?s not known what the demands were, but he imagines one of them was probably that super max extension and maybe more usage in keeping with what he had last season.

Quote
Jaylen Brown asked to be traded from the Celtics, per analyst Brian Scalabrine, in a new detail that has emerged. Brown was dealt from the Celtics to the Sixers this summer in a stunning trade that ended his 10-year tenure in Boston.

Brown was also included in rumors to Milwaukee in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the Bucks ended up choosing the Heat?s trade package. Per Scalabrine, on the latest episode on his show, ?The Starting Lineup,? he broke down how the Brown trade was communicated to him.

?My understanding is Jaylen Brown went to the organization and had a list of demands,? Scalabrine said. ?It was like you either do this or you trade me. And he was rooting to get traded to Milwaukee, including calling some other teammates about, ?Hey man, what do you think about Milwaukee? We should go there.? My point of all this is if you?re actually doing that and you?re going and saying that (Jayson) Tatum is the one that?s lying, your whole basis of this thing is a lie.?

I think Jaylen Brown lives in his own reality,? Scalabrine said. ?Because it wasn?t being documented that he demanded to be traded, I don?t think that anybody thinks that. Now he can say that it was Tatum?s fault. He can just make stuff up.?
