Nets weren't interested in Jaylen Brown?
And though Brown ended up in star-studded Philadelphia (with LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey), he could?ve landed in Brooklyn. And wasn?t wanted. They weren?t lowballing, a source said. They just shut it down altogether. They just said, We?re not interested. Sources told The Post that not only did the Celtics offer Brown to the Nets, but that the former Finals MVP was more than willing to join the Nets. It was the Nets that declined, according to sources, not about Boston?s asking price, but to avoid another Kyrie Irving situation.
-New York Post
The Nets did not want back their 2016 lottery pick that Billy King traded with Danny Ainge for back in 2013.
The source is the NY Post, so take that report with a grain of salt.
In saying that, the Nets recent decisions have been pretty shocking. Although they have lacked a bit of luck in the lottery, taking as many non elite shooting guards as the Nets have, is completely idiotic.
In their 2025 draft decisions, they took Demin over Coward & Murray-Boyles, but then still took Traore too. They also somehow passed on Hugo Gonzalez twice, for a couple of older flawed prospects.
Then in the 2026 draft, the Nets take yet another point guard. This means they are most likely going to completely devalue 1-2 of their own high draft picks purely because they will not develop, stuck behind another rookie.
In theory the Brooklyn Nets starting five could currently look something like this,
Mikel Brown Jr
Hugo Gonzalez
Jaylen Brown
Collin Murray-Boyles
Julius Randle
