I am listening to Tim Legler talk about the draft.
He spoke glowingly about the Lakers pick Cameron Carr. Both Legs and A Mares spoke about how excellent his shooting mechanics were. His shot looks beautiful. But it doesn't go in as often as you would expect it to (37.4% 3PT). Both expected that to go in more often as he ages. He has a brilliant foundation. Mechanics, high release point. They also said being in college where you a star man versus in the NBA playing off ball with Luka are completely different shots. NCAA stars sometimes look worse shooters than they actually are due to that defensive attention. They think this could be the case here.
They also spoke of his athleticism. Legler said his college coach said Carr was the most athletic player he ever coached and that guy had coached a bunch of high end athletes.
Legler was surprised by how far Carr dropped in the draft. He kept asking draft analysts why he is dropping and they gave him some answers. Legler still couldn't wrap his head around it. He has some weak points but his strengths were so impressive.
Legler thought Carr was perfect for Luka Doncic. Carr has the athleticism. He has the defense. He is a much better shooter than guys like Derrick Jones Jr who Luka played great with in Dallas. They also liked that Carr was a good cutter out of the corners as well creating some easy dunks which Luka will exploit.
LAL may have gotten a steal there.
