The silver lining of Porzingis missing so many games for the Celtics is that the team might get a huge discount on his next deal.

Given how deep the team is in luxury tax, getting Porzingis on a huge discount could help the team keep an additional star player going forward.

He's set to make $31M next year and we've all heard how much Brad has always loved Jrue. KP is going to need to be assertive and make a plea to the front office if he wants to stay. Offer to sign something ridiculous like a 3yr/$30M extension ($10M/yr).

Unless we move Jaylen, one of KP or Jrue is likely out this summer. KP needs to make his case for why he should be the one they keep. He loves it here, but I'm not sure he loves it enough to take a massive paycut.

I agree, I think Jrue is the odd man out next season.

But Porzingis may need to take a huge pay cut on his next deal, regardless if he stays in Boston or not.

When healthy, Porzingis is an all-star talent, bordering on all-nba. Obviously the key phrase is when healthy, as we have seen a steep decrease in his appearances over the past 3 seasons. From playing 65 games in Washington, 57 last season and now only 42.

Because the current luxury tax penalties are in place, I cannot see why any team would give Porzingis a large (multi year) contract. So if he is going to take a significant discount, surely it would be to stay in Boston.

What do I think is a significant discount is for Porzingis? Perhaps a salary somewhere between 22 and 25 million a season, with a team option on the final year of the contract.

Obviously that is just my opinion and I could be completely wrong.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Al, Jrue, and KP gone after this year, although, they don't have a big to replace KP or Al.  That's on Brad for bad drafting!  Rather than taking Baylor, Kyle Filipowski was there for the taking and he should have!  Without KP and Al, Luke is probably your starting C!

I would hate to see KP gone.

He's a high risk with the injury history, but he's the first legitimate 7-footer we've had in years who can actually protect the rim and score in the paint, and there have been so many nights where having that presence has completely changed the game.  The fact that he has practically unlimited shooting range only adds to that.

Plus he's just such a good guy, clearly loves being in Boston, and his positive vibes seem to be contagious.  I think his impact is very difficult to replace.

I think people underestimate Jrue's impact as well.  He's made huge offensive sacrifices on this team in the name of winning, and he's done that willingly.  On any other team he would have a > 20% usage rate and would be seen as one of the better point guards in the league, but because he's in Boston on such a deep roster people have largely forgotten he exists.  Make no mistake though - he was CRUCIAL in the Celtics championship run last season.  His ability to score inside the paint, spread the floor and switch 3-4 positions defensively are hugely impactful, and he's also a great leader off the court who has won rings on multiple teams.

I do understand that salary wise the team may not have a choice and may HAVE to get rid of someone...but it would still be sad to see Jrue (or even moreso, Porzingis) go.

I feel like if anything it's probably Al and Jrue who would be most likely to go, as they are probably the more replaceable.

I think Al is definitely staying on a team friendly contract.

At this rate we might have to attach picks to get rid of him  :P

Not sure what Zinger is going to do if Maz won't play him

Would be nice if Porzingis actually played a complete game too. Only one good game this postseason (Game 2 vs. ORL) but a bunch of duds and a lot of questions about if he can even play consistent minutes. Just makes it harder for guys like Horford too who is already 38

And if the guy really is sick or dealing with something then just say so and let him stay home. No need for him to potentially infect this team

Weird new role for KP.  At least he had some offense in the second half.  Definitely looks winded.

I?d have put him in for a couple of offensive possessions at the end of the game.  Al was giving us nothing.
Yup

He's been MIA for 99% of the playoff games we've had since signing. I like the guy, but he's done nothing besides one really good qtr in the playoffs for us.
He's got to go, same with Al and Jrue. Need younger legs that are working at this time of the year.

The other issue is, there's way more on Horford's plate at 38 years old because Porzingis is hit or miss now. Like yesterday, he comes off the bench, but then Horford has to play the entire 4th as well. What's it going to be Saturday? Porzingis starts but sits like the entire 2nd and 3rd? It's maddening. Is this guy dealing with mono or something? Baffling no one knows what it is but Porzingis meanwhile is just vibing in these press conferences acting like it's nothing

Al didn't have to play the entire 4th. They could've had JT fill in at C for a few minutes. This is another example of how incompetent Joe is.

Sure, but again, everyone is having to shoulder more because Porzingis yet again isn't reliable for the postseason. Despite all the managing they do for him. They got to add another big and/or trade KP this offseason.

agreed. Feel for KP but this isn't unusal for him.  He's had like one healthy season his whole career I think.
I said last summer I hoped they would bring in someone serviceable because he can't be relied on, and we didn't. Now here we are with bigs joe won't play and one that's too old to carry the load.
