Say the draft goes Ward Hunter Carter, in some order. Most mocks have the Patriots taking Campbell at that point. They could also trade to someone interested in Sanders. But how about if they just took Sanders themselves. You could trade Milton. The idea would be that Sanders would have more value later. Not sure that would be the case. Very unlikely they would do this. But interesting to speculate.

Another option would be that if you really like Sanders after one year as the back up, think what you could get if you put Maye out as trade bait. Again, this is really unlikely to happen.

It'd be an utter waste of value in #4.  You have Maye & Milton.  Then you're adding a 3rd QB?  The other 31 teams in the league know that.  So you'll have to make a trade.  Where is the Patriots' leverage? The value in the return there is almost certainly not to be as much as the value of the 4th pick in the draft.

According to SI, there's a rumor going that the Patriots may trade Joe Milton to the Steelers for Russell Wilson  :o

Wow. I. am. so. surprised.  ::)

The Patriots are not expected to pursue Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins this offseason, according to Chad Graff of The Athletic.

New England?s blueprint for the offseason does not include pursuing Higgins, the No. 1 free agent-to-be on our top-150 big board, Graff wrote.

According to The Athletic, the Patriots are prioritizing improvements on the offensive and defensive lines over wide receiver. New England?s biggest free-agent signings are expected to be at those positions, Graff wrote.

There are also questions about whether Higgins would be worth a potential $30 million per year price tag.

The game is always won on the lines offensive line, defensive line,? Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf said. Not just because of the (Philadelphia Eagles in the) Super Bowl it?s always been that way.

What Wolf missed is that championships are won by defenses

Well, he did say "defensive line".  So I wouldn't necessarily say he missed it.

Still think at receiver, their best course of action is to trade for Kupp, and sign Slayton. Also bring back Hooper as a solid TE2.

WR: Kupp/Douglas/Slayton/Bourne/Boutte/Polk

TE: Henry/Hooper/Bell

If they do what they say and add a LT + beef up the O-Line, the offense suddenly looks very nice.

CIN has Higgins plus an even better receiver and one of the top, what, 5 QBs, and they did not make the playoffs.  Top receivers will not help if the OL and D are not at least above average. If this is true about his thinking, I agree with Wolf.

I also would like something to play out along these lines. I have no problem paying for a legit elite receiver, I am just no sure Higgins could be that guy. I think without injuries, and as the #1 target, he could be somewhere between the 10th to 20th best receiver. Is that worth 30 mil? Probably not.

Invest heavily in the trenches, take swings on playmakers in the draft and mid level free agency. If somebody in the top 6 or 7 range of receivers shakes loose, go after them.

Harold Landry now a Patriot and reunited with Coach Vrabel. Folks saying this was a good signing. He may have had his worst season in 2024 of his entire career, but here's hoping Vrabel can unlock his elite talents again.

Didn't Eliot Wolf also say the offensive line would be good going into last season.

I do not have high expectations in free agency. Maybe there's a better course of action. Spend to the minimum that they need to. With the rest of that "cap space", reinvest it organizationally. Learn from those player surveys and make drastic improvements in those areas. Then improve the scouting department. Based on their draft history, the scouting department is a major issue.

Harold Landry is a really good signing. 19.5 sacks over the two seasons since his injury. He will be 29 for his entire first season. If Barmore returns to even 90% of what he was, and we sign Milton Williams, our pass rush could be fearsome next year. Very good value signing.

Also he was pretty productive last year. 9 sacks, 71 tackles, 15 TFL and a safety isn't elite, but it's very good. We got great value for the price we paid.

As a BC grad, Landry will always have a sweet spot in my heart.  Its an overpay but a necessary one.
