Sources: The #Patriots are signing #Texans FA WR Stefon Diggs, one of the top free agents available. He gets a 3-year, $69M deal.

After a successful visit to NE, including a physical thanks to an ACL tear that ended his 2024, he lands to be a key target for Drake Maye./quote]

Yeah but also I just think he's a diva. Idk if that's a good thing for Maye and the young guys

This was my thought posted on the previous page:

Ultimately I don't want him anyways. We don't need a diva in the WR room and someone who can negatively impact Maye if he doesn't get the ball enough. I actually think Josh Allen and the Bills did just fine, if not a little better without Diggs and his toxicity last season. Remember, Diggs was garbage in the AFC Divisional Round game vs KC two years ago and I remember throughout the season he was throwing visible fits at Allen and the Bills when he wasn't getting targets.

Yeah, if it's a disaster, you cut him after a year. We had a seemingly infinite amount of salary available, but nobody to spend it on. Wasn't he just named a team captain, too? I get that he's had his issues in the past, but the team had a fairly lengthy meeting with him and it also shows that they are trying to compete this upcoming year.

Not sure what surprises me more: that the Pats signed him, or that he was willing to sign with the Pats.

Regardless, he's the No. 1 receiver the team has lacked for quite some time and should open things up for the other receivers. Hopefully Diggs has learned his lessons about being a team player and blends in well.

Seems like Diggs and the Pat?s both had limited options.  Diggs was playing pretty well before he got injured last year. Hopefully he can get back to that. Will be interesting.

If they draft Hunter and add a LT (either Smith in FA or draft one like Ersery/Conerly/Simmons) I'll be ecstatic.

Diggs was on pace for 1,000+ yards last season before his ACL tear but over the previous 6 seasons before he's always had 1,000+ yards. That's miles ahead of any Pats receiver in like the last 5 years lol. But yeah, hopefully he can also be a team player and not a diva. If so, that could also benefit the young WR room where guys are slotted into less pressure roles (ex. Douglas can thrive as a #2 instead of being forced as a #1) and his veteran expertise could also help in everyone's development.

I have concerns about Diggs the Diva.  He tends to wear out his welcome over time, like in Buffalo.  But these types tend to behave for the first season, just to prove their doubters wrong.  I think that will be the case.  He won't start acting up right away.  And he is a really good player, assuming he is healthy.  I believe that the value of a diva receiver is overrated, but that said, I like the signing.  The terms, in particular the amount guaranteed, is not bad.

I had said earlier that I felt we were an solid, above average LT away from being a playoff team.  I still think that is the case.  Diggs isn't going to catch the ball if Maye is running for his life.  He makes us better, but the OL is still the key.

Even with Diggs, I am still hoping for Hunter to fall to us.  I look at it this way, many first round picks do not pan out, even top 5 picks.  But you kind of get 2 chances with Hunter.  I would try him at WR first, to me, that is more valuable than CB.  Plenty of first round WRs don't pan out, Hunter might not.  But if he doesn't, you can still try him at CB.  He has 2 chances to make it at high value positions.

Will Diggs even be able to play this season? Wasn't he injured in week 8 or something last year? Hard to imagine he will be 100% this season.

Then again, not all tears are equal - maybe his wasnt a full tear? More a severe sprain? He supposedly passed his physical,  and it's only been maybe 4 months since the injury. Anyone have any insights into this?

Subtract the two numbers, and it's also the year today, 25! 25-point comeback :)
