Trade rumour / idea

Quote
The Cavaliers have the depth to pull that off, though they are still searching for that archetypal 3-and-D wing. (They?d have interest in one of Dorian Finney-Smith and Cameron Johnson in Brooklyn, sources said, but they have only one future first-round pick ? their 2031 pick ? available to trade.)

LeVert, Strus, 2031 1st rounder & pick swaps for DFS & Cam Johnson. Would that be enough? That 2031 1st is such a wild card. Still it may not be enough.

Imagine that Cavs team

G: Garland
G: D Mitchell
F: Cam Johnson
F: E Mobley, D Finney Smith
C: J Allen, D Wade
I almost feel they'd be better off trading Garland. Maybe just DFS, Johnson, and. Knicks 1st for Garland.  Gives Cavs an extra pick and balances roster a bit better.  Just play Mitchell at point.

Is his value really that low? Two role players and a late first? I figured he was as at least as valuable as bridges

That is a cool team.

G: D Mitchell
G: Strus, LeVert
F: Cam Johnson, Okoro
F: E Mobley, D Finney Smith
C: J Allen, D Wade

I wonder if they have a good enough 2nd option. Evan Mobley? Cam Johnson? LeVert?

I love the shooting of Strus & Cam Johnson next to D Mitchell. J Allen as a roll man is awesome. I am more open to trading E Mobley than you are. I love the other pieces. Mobley is the guy I am uncomfortable with. I love the combo of D Mitchell & J Allen. They work so well together.

Still, I would do that deal for Garland and then look to trade E Mobley for an offensive forward.

Or,

G: D Mitchell
G: Strus, LeVert
F: Cam Johnson, Okoro
F: D Finney Smith
C: E Mobley / J Allen, D Wade

Also, a cool lineup. Either with Mobley at center or J Allen at center. D Finney Smith is a strong choice at PF. Gives the defense & floor spacing you want at PF. Strong unit with Jarrett Allen at center. More upside with Evan Mobley at center.

Two lines of thought here

(1) Those are two really, really good role players. Not as valuable as a D White but a notch or two below. The two of them together is valuable.

I have Cam Johnson as a top 15 SF. I love his skill-set. The shooting, the passing. Good scoring. Average defense & rebounding. Just a well rounded player.

Finney Smith is a bit harder to pin down at PF. The PF position is surprisingly deep in talent these days. That gap from about 15-23 at the PF position has little separation in my mind. I could put Finney Smith near the bottom or near of the group depending on how much I am emphazing offense (T Harris, DeRozan, H Barnes, Miles Bridges) or defense (Finney Smith). I'd probably put him around 20 but could be talked into putting him higher.

As you can tell, I love Finney Smith as a glue guy. One of the better defensive PFs in the league. A solid rebounder. Limited skill-set on offense but can hit enough 3s and at a high enough rate to keep defenses honest. Did a great job hiding Luka on defense over the years in Dallas. The type of 3+D guy title contenders love to have.

(2) Those small guards like Garland and Trae Young who was mentioned a few posts back seem to be getting low interest in trade market. They are out of vogue at the moment. Not a good time to be trading a small guard.

A year ago I think CLE could have gotten a young to prime All-Star talent for Garland. Not sure they can now. I would expect an older star, a highly paid unwanted star or a talent downgrade now. So a downgrade on either (a) age (b) contract (c) talent.

Generally speaking, the are probably best holding off for now and seeing if Garland value recovers ... but it hurts to hold off on pursuing that title run. CLE are not that far away. You hate to waste seasons. They already wasted one this past year by keeping that badly balanced side together instead of trying to fix it.

The Warriors and Hield agreed on a four-year contract worth up to $38 million, league sources told HoopsHype.

Quote
Hield will earn a guaranteed $18 million in the first two years of the deal, a partially guaranteed $3 million in the third year, and has a player option in the fourth year of the agreement, as ESPN?s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.

So Buddy is only getting $9.5mil per year. Only two years guaranteed. That is a bargain deal for GSW.

As Cavaliers beat writer Chris Fedor said during an appearance on The HoopsHype Podcast, ?In many ways, it feels like the Cavaliers have outgrown Okoro.?

A potential offer for Okoro above the non-taxpayer mid-level exception could make Cleveland think twice about retaining the 23-year-old stout defender, who?s coming off a career-high 39.1 percent from 3-point range

Okoro is a good bench SF. He would be a nice pickup for someone if CLE doesn't value him.

That Hield deal is surprising. I get that he has his deficiencies, but he is one of the league's best high volume 3pt shooters and he is incredibly durable. We're all worried about Hauser getting $15M+/yr and a guy like Hield isn't even getting the MLE. Maybe those Joe Harris/Duncan Robinson type contracts are a thing of the past.

I just love that the Fakers lost out again, first Klay and now Buddy. Remarkable that good players don?t want to play with LBJ and AD, or maybe the LAL circus is just too much.

I like Okoro too.  He's got to get close to the MLE at least.

Caleb Martin to the Sixers. That's a really nice pickup for them.

I get the sense that the new generation of star players isn't quite as enamored with Lebron as the previous generation was.

Yeah, they've done a good job filling out the team after signing PG.

The 76ers will waive F/C Paul Reed, whose contract is non-guaranteed for next season, sources tell ESPN.

I would love to get Paul Reed for our 15th roster spot.

It cracked me up that Dalton Knect was asked who the GOAT was, and he said Durant.

I?d rather it was that they aren?t enamored with the Lakers. If a generation could pass where the Lakers accomplishments are commensurate with the quality of their management maybe fewer youngs will grow up hoping to be a Laker. Maybe they?ll rather be a Clipper or a Warrior (sticking to west coast).

I think the Lakers are far more likely to blow up than people think. The favoritism and hype going to Bronny James because he's Lebron's son, and then what happens if things get a little ugly and Reddick has to answer for it? I could definitely be wrong but next season feels like it could become a real circus for LA.
