Theis to the Pelicans.

Solid chance for playing time.  I heard he was being targeted by European teams, so I'm glad to see him stick around.

The Bucks did not extend a qualifying offer to TyTy Washington. Washington averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 assists while shooting 42.6% on threes for the Wisconsin Herd. The former Kentucky guard could be an intriguing development signing for a team in unrestricted free agency.

Those are some impressive G-League stats. I wonder why they are giving up on him. Hmm ... the qualifying offer was probably just too expensive for a team deep in the luxury tax.

He looks a good get for somebody looking for a 3rd string PG.

I doubt that the issue is the qualifying offer being too expensive for the team, and more it being too expensive for the player. QOs make sense if the player is worth more and/or you expect them to get other offers that you want to match, but for players that deserve 2-ways you don't want to offer the QO because they'll sign it and then you'll be stuck with them on the main roster. You're better off skipping the QO and just negotiating a deal with them.

I?m pretty sure Washington?s QO could have been for a 2-way since he had minimal playing time with the Bucks and was in his first year in the organization, as was the case with our 2-way QO for Drew Peterson.

That's a good match between player and team. Plenty of minutes available there, and they could really use a big who can at least sort of stretch the floor next to Zion.

Always will have a soft spot for Theis in my heart.  Even have his Celts jersey.

Me too. I hope he's able to have some success at the end of his career here. He deserves it.

The OKC tenure was a disaster seems he may only get a vet min somewhere for a bench role. Not sure he will be willing to do that

Adrian Wojnarowski: Free agent Haywood Highsmith has agreed on a two-year, $11 million deal to return to the Miami Heat, his agent Jerry Dianis tells ESPN.

Miami looking fairly steady despite losing Caleb Martin & Delon Wright

G: T Rozier
G: T Herro, D Robinson
F: J Butler, Highsmith
F: N Jovic, J Jaquez
C: B Adebayo, K Love, K Ware

They also have Josh Richardson, Alec Burks, Thomas Bryant and P Larsson. So quite a bit of depth beyond their top 9-10 guys. That is 14 legit NBA players. Lot of center depth. Lot of wing depth.

It would be nice to see them add a legit PG instead of only having the option of playing a combo guard (T Herro, J Richadson) as their backup PG behind Rozier.

If you literally mean ?about the same? then that is a loss because a lot of teams in the East got better. In any case, that roster does not look impressive, at all. They are back to Butler/Bam and a bunch of average (non-all-star) players. Riley is losing his touch. He should go after KD.

Chris Mannix @SIChrisMannix

On his podcast, Paul George calls the Clippers initial offer (two-years, $60 million) ?disrespectful.?

He says he would have signed exact same deal as Kawhi did midseason. And when LAC finally offered it after the season, he said he?d take it?leaving a four-year offer ...

I can't see the rest of that tweet.

A separate article says

Quote
The plan was to stay on the Clippers, and George said he would have stayed for the same money Kawhi Leonard got ? three years, $152 million ? if Los Angeles had also given him a no-trade clause. They didn?t.

Quote
?So the first initial deal was like two years, 60 [million]. So I?m like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Two years, 60? That?s crazy! I?m not signing that. Now we?re getting into the negotiating...

?It was like they would go up inches, inches, inches to where it was like 44-45 [million a year]? Then I hear wind of what they?re going to give Kawhi so I?m like, ?Just give me what Kawhi got. Y?all view us the same. We came here together, we want to finish this s*** together. I?ll take what Kawhi got, I was cool with that....

?Season ends, I finish healthy, 74 games played and had one of my most efficient seasons. So now we going into negotiations and they bring it to three years, 150 [million]. Basically what they wanted to give Kawhi... and I?m like alright, we?re in the ballpark. Now we can have a conversation. Still it still wasn?t about the money because when I went back to have the negotiation at the end of the year, I presented the 3 [years], 150 [million], no trade [clause]? I?m taking less, but at least I know I?m here. They didn?t want to do no trade. They didn?t want to do that so then I?m like, ?All right, well then it only makes sense for me to do four years, 212 [million]. At least pay me my money. If y?all going to trade me, ya?ll going to trade me, but at least now I?m not in a situation where I could have got more, had I just gone a free agency, then just take this deal where y?all could ship me. They didn?t want to do that, so now I was like I?m open to entertaining what?s out there.?

So he would have taken the 3yrs $150mil if he had a no-trade clause. He wanted to be secure in the knowledge he would be there in LA. And him and Kawhi would finish what they started. LAC refused the trade clause so PG13 wanted a 4th year.

So he was willing to take less if he knew that is where he would spend the entirety of that contract. LAC was not willing to make that commitment.

Looks like LAC bundled this negotiation right from the start and all the way through.

Paul George confirmed on @PodcastPShow the Warriors were his preferred destination, but a sign-and-trade agreement fell through: ?It would?ve been dope, man. I was looking forward to it, if it happened.? Golden State viewed George as their missing piece alongside Stephen Curry.

Pelicans now have 3 centers

Starter: Daniel Theis
Backup: Yves Missi
3rd String: J Robinson-Earl

I hope they do not think this is adequate. They should be gearing up for a Championship run. Anytime you got 4 players as good as Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Dejounte Murray & CJ McCollum you should be talking Championship. This is not a Championship quality center rotation.

They are saying the market for Ingram has been really bad as well. Few teams are willing to pay him the max extension he wants. Fewer willing to give up much value in order to have the priviledge of paying him those mega-bucks.
