Harrison Wind @HarrisonWind

You can rule out Gary Trent Jr. as an option for the Nuggets at this point in free agency, I?m told. He?s not going to take a minimum contract and I don?t think there would be much interest on Denver?s end anyway.

This guy said the Nuggets top two priorities heading into the off-season was (1) a big man (2) a ballhandler.

He believes Saric and Westbrook are their top targets for each of them. They landed Saric and he expects them to get Westbrook.

Not very inspiring additions and they lost KCP.

Anyone else disappointed in the off-season The Spurs have had? I was very excited about them to put some talent around Wemby with their assets and draft picks and they come away with....38 year old Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes?

As far as the draft goes: Castle is a tweener type player with questionable play making abilities and even more questionable jump shot. Not sold on him at all. Topic, Williams, Carter, and McCain are players I'm very high on who I think they should have grabbed with the 8th pick...instead they trade the pick for a pick next decade...?

They had a real chance to improve drastically but I think, as currently constructed, they are still by far the worst team in their division and I'd be surprised to even see them in contention for a play in spot - even if Wemby is the second coming.

I'm disappointed the Spurs didn't tank again. They are going to be bad. Should just tank

They shouldn't be trying to make the playoffs this season.  From what I read, the projected 2025 draft is supposed to be much better with 5 or 6 top level players.  Let those losses mount up and hopefully draft another young star to pair with Wemby.  Imagine they get lucky and get Cooper.

Spurs added Wemby and doubled Vassell's games last year and won the same amount games as year before i.e. 22 games.  They should be looking to add 1 more piece from themselves next summer and then look to go for it while still having what they still have from Hawks.  This wasn't the Cavs when they added Lebron winning 18 more games or the Magic adding Shaq and winning 20 more.  Some guys just move the needle immediately while some guys do not (like the Sonics/Thunder with KD and Russ).

If Wemby has any small injury, they should take him out for half the year. The rest of that team is a tanking team.

The west got weaker with the Nuggets' downgrade, the loss of Paul George, and the stalemate Suns. So, still possible for the Spurs to lock up a lower seed!

Yikes. I disagree. I don't think Paul will play enough to benefit this team on the court that much, and Barnes is as average as you can get.

Sure but Grizzlies is better, Kings are better, Rockets are better, and the Nuggets, Suns, and Clippers may be worse, but they are all still better than the Spurs (not to mention Dallas, OKC, Minny, and New Orleans)

Spurs strike me as a play-in team, and a team no one will want to face with Wemby on the rise.

West is gonna be a bloodbath going forward. The Blazers feel like the only true *horrible* team. Maybe Utah also? But a few others like the Rockets, Grizzlies (health), Spurs, etc. should also take leaps. And then you have the other 6-8 great West teams headlined by OKC, DEN and MIN.

Spurs starting lineup

Wemby will be a top 5 center next season. Is Devin Vassell a top 10 SG? Probably. Harrison Barnes is an average starting SF. CP3 a low end starting PG. Sochan a wild card but I'll leave him as near bottom of the pack starting PF.

So one high end starter, one strong starter, one average starter and two weak starters.

Spurs bench

Two high end bench players in Keldon Johnson and Zach Collins. A middle of the pack backup PG in Tre Jones. Stephon Castle is a bit of a wild card. He looks like he may a solid bench player but let's leave him below average until he proves otherwise.

That is a pretty good bench. Two high end bench players and an average bench player. Strong 8 man rotation there. They have some other guys behind them like S Castle & Champagnie.

Overall

It is a pretty respectable team. No reason for them not to be challenging for a .500 record.

Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks have agreed to a four-year, $156.5 million contract extension. Brunson will have a player option in Year 4. Brunson could have signed in 2025 for $269.1 million over five years, which is a difference of $113 million guaranteed and an annual average of $39.1 million against $53.8 million.

KJ Martin and the Philadelphia 76ers have agree to a two-year, $16 million deal.

Talk that they gave him a larger contract in order to use him as a trade asset later in the season. Probably would have only gotten a minimum contract otherwise.
