Brown not going be 100% until after the season and hamstring strain for holiday is not good so this gotta be hard to repeat a title

I mean if they called that on Tatum or brown in the same circumstances I would?ve been annoyed too. Soft call. It?s ok to admit it

It wasn?t the hardest foul, but when you contact a player who is going up for a shot from the side or behind, you should get a foul.  Banchero drew one against us in a similar manner in the first half (I think on Jaylen).  It stunk for the Magic it was his 5th, but it was absolutely a foul.  Banchero needed to be more careful out there with four fouls, and that is why you see coaches sub players out when they get two quick ones and out themselves in trouble, to slow them down and be a little more cautious.

Yeah.  I fundamentally disagree with refs that are hesitant to call a 5th or 6th foul.  A foul should be called based on the same criteria every time.

Agreed.

What about the decision to bench Banchero with the 5 fouls?   Seemed like the tide started to turn and then went full disaster for the Magic when they pulled Wagner for rest as well.  In retrospect the Magic would have been much better to leave Banchero in the game and risk the 6th foul - or at least get him back in the game when Wagner came out for his rest.

I'm sure there's a "Fire Mosley" thread over on some Magic blog where they're calling for his head over this, and also the fact that he let the C's lead to grow to 25 before he called a timeout.

Looking back, the Magic were able to keep it close for the next ~6 minutes, keeping it a 1-2 possession game. About 3 minutes left in the 3rd is when the C's really started to heat up, C's got it up to 10, but also had to take what I believe was a TV timeout. That's when Banchero should have probably gone back in. After that the C's really got hot, hitting three straight 3s and their next 5 total shots to end the quarter up 21. Somewhere in there Mosley probably should have called a timeout and put Banchero back in since he hadn't already.

Celtics performances for Magic series:

Tatum: 31.3/11.3/5.3 on 44.7/36.4/90.2 with a TS% of 60.7 and a USG% of 33.4
Brown: 23.0/7.6/2.4 on 49.4/44.4/84.4 with a TS% of 60.5 and a USG% of 28.4
White: 17.2/4.8/4.8 on 50.8/35.9/88.9 with a TS% of 64.2 and a USG% of 18.1
Porzingis: 12.0/5.8/1.0 on 35.2/11.8/71.4 with a TS% of 45.2 and a USG% of 22.8
Pritchard: 9.2/1.6/1.2 on 51.6/50.0/62.5 with a TS% of 66.6 and a USG% of 14.1
Horford: 7.0/6.8/2.6 on 46.7/41.7/66.7 with a TS% of 55.9 and a USG% of 9.9

Hauser and Kornet both averages under 4 ppg. Holiday only played 2 games.

Tatum and Brown showed up big time, White was elite at picking his spots, Pritchard and Horford didn't do a lot on offense but were excellent defensively for most of the series, Porzingis was pretty bad, Hauser and Kornet didn't do a lot, Holiday only played two games.

Hopefully Detroit wins tomorrow so that series goes 7.  And hopefully this extra time brings us a healthy Holiday, and a continually recovering JB.

Yeah, this is a great layoff. I was concerned the league might try to squeeze in a Saturday Game 1.

I just saw this posted on Facebook, an interesting news report from right after the Cs beat the Lakers for the 1965 NBA title:

Quote
Apr. 25, 1965

?The story is at the other end,? said Laker coach Fred Schaus after his team had just lost the NBA finals to the Celtics in five games. ?There?s no story here. The Celtics won the game.?

Someone asked: ?Which Celtics? player hurt you the most??

Schaus had to laugh at that one, albeit the slightest of laughs.

?Nine years the same man,? he said. ?Bill [Russell] hurt us the most. He was something else out there today. I?ve said so many times that the Celtics are the best team I have ever seen. They just keep on pouring the men at you, and they never let up. It?s a defensive giant, that?s what it is. I don?t know when anyone is going to beat them.?

Finally, Schaus said, ?Go ahead in, if you want,? and into the losers? dressing room went the press to view men who looked as though they still were in a state of shock.

The rush was to Jerry West ? a nice guy all the way through the series, but an awfully tired one today.

?Does a great player become embarrassed when his team is being smothered the way the Lakers were in the third period, when the Celtics ran off 20 straight points?? he was asked.

?Well, it?s tough to take,? West replied. ?But I know one thing: I?ll never live to see a team play better for a stretch than that group did. It was really sensational. And I take my hat off to them.

?Russell played his greatest game of the series. That man makes the game so tough. You keep on thinking about him. I laid in a shot in the first few seconds, and I never had another soft one all afternoon.

?I?m tired, been tired since the Baltimore series. I just got beat up so bad trying to throw up that ball that I don?t know when I?ll be able to get enough rest.

?We were overpowered today, badly, but we didn?t quit, and I?ll have to say that it?s going to be awful tough another year with that man in the hole to fight off.?

The sidelined Elgin Baylor also praised Russell at some length.

?He?s like a shadow,? said Elgin. ?He keeps them going. They never let up. K.C. was great. They just pour it at you.?

Russell says they were his best title teams. The 1964 and 1965 sides. Because they were the best defensive groups.

Probably Russ at the peak of his powers as well.

Yeah, this is a great layoff. I was concerned the league might try to squeeze in a Saturday Game 1.

I thought Sunday was possible if NY won Game 6 but I think CLE-IND already being on Sunday affected things. No way they would have done Saturday as that would mean NY has to come to Boston just two days after a non-Game 7.

It's a good schedule. A few extra days rest, then two days off between Games 2-3 before we ultimately advance on May 14  ;)

I'm interested to see if Holiday will be back game 1, or if he'll still be out. The Celtics originally said he was day to day, but hamstrings can be tricky. The Eastern Conference finals is scheduled to start on May 21st. That would be exactly 4 weeks since the lats game Jrue Holiday played on April 23rd. My hope is the Celtics can handle their second round opponent in no more than five games and buy Jrue Holiday rest all the way until the Eastern Conference Finals where I expect they'll need him whether its against Indy or Cleveland, if he needs it.

A grade 1 hamstring strain (what i assume he has) typically has about a 2-3 week recovery timeline.

Celtics will better off if Jrue is back for EC finals . He is so smart at leading and directing the flow of the game.  I feel like without him we play more erratic style .  He sets the tempo so nice .
