Jaylen Brown injured his right knee, resulting in a bone bruise with posterior impingement, while playing against the Utah Jazz.
A posterior impingement in the knee refers to a condition where the tissues or structures at the back of the knee joint are compressed or pinched, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion. This can occur due to a variety of factors, including muscle or tendon injuries, ligament tears, meniscal tears, or even bony abnormalities.
The last UTA game that Brown played in was March 10. He played 38 minutes in that game. The Celtics have had 16 games since then including 3 cases of back to back games. Brown has played a total of 9 games since March 10. Wasn't an impingement part of the problem for Isaiah Thomas' hip?
Anyway, what I think this all adds up to is that this impingement in Brown's knee is not going to change much with a few more days of rest. I think they played him those last several games as a test, to see how much it was going to hurt, and maybe where it was going to hurt. One last try before they resort to the injections. He probably will not play Sunday, after the injections, that is fine, and understandable. But I am concerned about how ready he is going to be for the playoffs.
Resting doesn't seem to help, playing doesn't seem to help, we will see if pain injections help. I hate to be overly confident but the first round should still be fairly easy so maybe they can work him back in, give him highly managed minutes to see how the knee reacts. But I don't see how his game gets better than what we saw vs. NYK without him playing. Since March 10, he has had 3 decent games (by his standards), 2 vs. PHX and 1 vs. MIA. The other 6 have been well below his normal level. The most recent game (which was the 7th in 16 nights for him) was one of his worst games.
