Belichick clearly thought the juice wasn't worth the squeeze when it came to Hopkins.  Would this team be anything besides 1-2 with Hopkins?  I'm guessing probably not.

The team clearly has had a strategy when its come to WR1s over the years.  For whatever reason, the emphasis really hasn't been there outside of Moss who they brought extremely low. It's mostly been gambles or veterans barely hanging on. Non-TE, who was the best WR in those six world championships?  Branch?  Edelman?  Brown?

Fix the OL and some of your receiver problems will go away.  I do think you'll see the offense get incrementally better as the season progresses.
you cam get away with that when you have the best QB of all time, but it is a problem for virtually anyone else.

Not saying the philosophy is necessarily right or wrong.

But based on 20+ years of data (since you seem big on that), it should've been apparent that Belichick wasn't going to bend over backwards to bring in Hopkins.

well he is certainly answering the question about whether he would  do things differently without Brady.  He does not and that is why he is a below .500 coach without Brady.  Brady masked so many issues with the team over the years that the roster problems didn't cause that many issues with the record or success.   But that is Brady (other great QB also have that effect, look at Manning in Indy as an example).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Got to say, it's maddening how guys like Jeudy, Evans, Taylor, etc. are potentially on the trade market and yet the teams interested in them are already pretty loaded (Bills, Dolphins, Chiefs, etc.). Meanwhile NE and Belichick think they have "enough". And then we wonder after a loss "man where is our talent, why is that other team so good"  ::)

And the QB argument doesn't make sense to me. Okay so Mac Jones isn't Burrow/Allen/Mahomes. I fully agree. Guess what, there's only 3 of them in the entire league. Are the other 28 teams in a bad situation then with their QBs (even Hurts/Tua/Dak/Cousins/Lamar, etc.) and so it doesn't matter either?

I get that we have CB injuries but we can all agree that myles bryant on ceedee lamb is a completely moronic idea right? That dude is the definition of bum. Theres gotta be defensive backs in free agency or on a practice squad somewhere who are definitely better than this dude
everyone got so sensitive after 9-11... thanks alot bin laden

I'm not giving up on the season yet because they still have a ton of winnable games coming up. However, this team just looks lost against any semblance of a great team, and that's not a winning or playoff-clinching formula in this league. At least even in 2021, they got a signature win here or there. 2022 and so far in 2023, nada.

Then there's all the injuries happening at CB, as well as the lack of a WR1.

All their remaining games are "winnable" except for BUF (2x) and KC probably, but if they drop any of the next two against NO or LAV, season's officially done.

The DB injuries have been brutal. Tough to overcome

They are down to their #5 CB atm. I don’t care who you have at coach. That is an insurmountable disadvantage at that level, especially vs a good team like Dallas.

Considering our cornerbacks are also our best pass catchers, I agree.

I'm a Mac guy and defender, still think a lot of the issues is due to Belichick the GM and lack of roster talent around him. That said, I can't defend Mac today. Horrible awareness leading to the strip sack fumble for TD, and then that HORRIBLE Pick-6 he just threw. Like what the hell...

Yeah. Truly terrible. The sad thing is the receivers and o-line have been mediocre today, which is an improvement for them.

Mac has just been missing reads and missing throws. He looks like a deer in the headlights out there. There are plays to be made but he's in a state of panic.

He looks a lot like Zach Wilson actually.

Yeah the Pats aren't coming back 28-3 without Tom Brady. That's for sure.
