After much agonising, here goes.

With the 8th pick of the 1st round, the Orlando Magic select...

Chris Webber!

The prototype for modern big men to follow. Athletic, could shoot and handle, great at rebounding, good defensively.

I thought Webber was one of the best players to build a team around.  His passing; his ability to make the game easier for players around him thus making them better. Then add in his all-round game at PF with shooting, low post play, rebounding, some defense.

And he can play the PF or C so you can pair him with literally any other big man in the competition. Play big and use bully ball. Play small and use spacing. He can do it all.
The ability to scale his game up or down with other good talent is what intrigued me. His passing as a big sets him apart from most others (besides a couple!). No idea whether I'll go big or small though

Very few passers at that PF position. It was something that stood out and surprised me when I was looking at my draft board. Most of those guys were low quality to average passers. You get some better ones as borderline starters and bench players but most of the expected starters I have as limited passers.

Webber and Pau were two of the only good passers I have listed in my top 8 PFs. The others are average to below average. And Pau And Webber are not just good passers, they are excellent passers. Major advantage over the rest of competition at PF.

I think you might be missing one due to his near-ineligibility. But beyond that I agree

I like Carter. Maybe a bit of an reach, but I think his overall game is more conductive to team building than someone like T-Mac.

Why do you think Vince is better for team than McGrady?

I have them as quite similar but Tracy a bit more skilled. That extra skill made him more reliable as a volume scorer against good defenses. Vince more inconsistent.

The Nets take the man that should have been Finals MVP in 2010 and pick up the multi-positional Spainard Pau Gasol.
This wasn't who I had you picking! Gasol is great. I think the most intriguing part about him is the different seasons available. His 3 top seasons were (IMO) all for different teams, being Memphis, LA & Chicago.
now I'm intrigued as to who you had me picking.

Man, I have no idea how the next 10 picks or so are going to go.

No idea who I'll get to pair with Alonzo. A guard. A wing. A big. Defense. Offense. I don't think I can make any plans until late 2nd / early 3rd picks happen. Then some idea of what the overall team will look like will start to appear. I like that about Alonzo. You can go a lot of different ways with him in terms of team building.

Roy only has a couple of minutes left on the clock, but Dons if you’re good to wait around for 15 to give him a shot that’d be helpful!

Happy to wait as long as needed for Roy & Dons to make their picks - apologies in advance if I wind up falling asleep and finishing off Round 1 tomorrow morning.

One of the Top 75, unfortunately.

Probably would’ve went #1 overall if he was eligible- we are a bunch of Celtics fans after all.
