The cap stuff makes moves like this so difficult to interpret.  So does the vagueness with which everything is reported.

So we picked up pick #31, some future seconds, and likely usage if the $5M taxpayer MLE, right?

No guaranteed salary spot for 2nd round players and can use them as 2-way players, I believe. Keeps the option for MLE open where a first round pick seemingly made that more difficult.

Still frustrating, though. Could we not have negotiated a future Memphis 1st round pick with protections if that's the case?

Wow. Traded for #31 and future 2nds

They really salary dumped a first rounder. Unreal

No, getting back additional seconds, when they had literally none they can trade until 2030, isn’t a salary dump.

Why are we getting a $5 mil tax payer MLE by making this trade?

Celtics should be in range to use the $5M Taxpayer MLE after they trade Marcus Sasser to the Pistons and drop out of the #25 pick.

In a vacuum I don't hate it. 25 and 31 aren't all that different.

But it's annoying to me, because when we traded Marcus Smart I had hoped we had someone in mind and either we didn't or someone else took him

Or we do and we will still get him.

This is my guess.  These guys have way more info than we do right now.  Fairly likely that this was done with at least one target who would likely be available at 31.

Of course we won’t KNOW that until it all plays out.

It’s annoying to me because I was getting ready for bed.

This. TP.

Trading down and still getting someone like Sensabaugh or Miller is a huge W.

I’m pretty confident that this prediction will be wrong.  Marcus Sasser will be lucky to get his year 4 option picked up.

Is that because our payroll will now be projected to be just under an apron?

Still a ton of talent left on the board. Makes me completely fine trading down.
