I?m not seeing any improvement from Baylor or Hugo. Seems like Brad is overvaluing these guys.

Did not want to give up Baylor and/or Hugo for Giannis huh...this will hurt as the season progresses  :-X

I doubt Baylor was much of a factor there. Hugo is the guy I believe he did not want to give up.

I doubt they have high hopes for Baylor. He is a solid bench player. Maybe someday they believe he can be a borderline starter.

Hugo on the other hand they may believe he has star potential. He has a good blend of physical talent and the types of hustle play that you cannot teach. If you can add a jump-shot to that, he would be one heck of a player.

I don?t see it. His minutes are actually down this year so far. I?m thinking more of an Alex Caruso type. A solid role player.
I think there's the typical star player archetypes and then there's star level impact. Hugo does not have the potential to become a go-to scorer. He just doesnt have the natural touch, handle or scoring feel to ever become that.

However, I think he can reach star level impact. Hes an great athlete  and has very good feel for the game. I think he could follow that Iguodala, Aaron Gordon type archetype where hes not a "star" but has as much impact on winning as one.

Andre Iguadala was an allstar. He was also selected 9th overall. Gordon was #4 overall. These guys were not similar prospects to Hugo. If Gonzalez was, he would not have gone 28th overall.

Well, I think you need to factor in circumstances here. If he was playing in college, he would've been a  starter in a high profile college program rather than being an off the bench rotation guy for a European professional team as a teenager.

If he went 28th overall coming from Real Madrid, you can almost certainly project up to lottery or mid first rounder if he's playing US college ball.  He would've been a bigger prospect.

I?m not so sure about that. There were 5 international players taken in that Draft ahead of Hugo who did not play college ball. 4 of them were selected inside of the top 20.

I think Hugo has some potential, but Andre Iguodala and Aaron Gordon? I don?t see that at all.

Jimmy Butler was taken at 30, so who knows.  It does not always hurt a player's draft position to have played in Europe, but I think for Hugo, it did hurt him to not have played in NCAAB.  I think it also hurt his overall development.  If he had a season or two in NCAAB, he likely would have gone much higher.  I see way more ceiling for Hugo than either Walsh or Scheierman, but you never know.  And I don't buy that BOS valued him so much that they would not trade him even for Giannis.  I think they value him plenty as they should.

Still only 20 years old.  2 years younger than Walsh.  5.5 years younger than Scheierman.  Already in his second year of playing fairly well in the NBA.

Looking at +/- per 100 poss through 4 games for core players, some interesting results (admittedly small sample size).

Mitch-Rob is -13.9 and Queta is +21.4.  Garza, in far fewer minutes is +17.1

For the random wings, Hauser leads at +31.5 (leads the whole team), then Hugo at +13.3, Walsh at +1.9, and Scheierman at -0.7.  Quite a range.  Scheierman and Walsh seem to have plateaued.  We'll see if they can correct course.  Again, these are per 100 possessions so sometimes when extrapolating for players with fewer minutes, things get distorted some.

Pritchard (+10.0), George, (+8.8), and Tatum (+6.3) are all in the range that I would expect.  Pritchard has a very good +/- despite not scoring at the rate he typically does.  White, though, is -4.8.  He has traditionally been a +/- or net rating darling.  He leads the team in TOV per 100 Poss at 5.6.  Also near the top for TOV%.  TOV overall are high for the team relative to last season (16.0 total per game compared to 12.4 last season).

Iguodala was a Jeff Teague all-star who made the team in a shortened season because Sixers were doing good at the all-star break.

Also both those guys were expected to be stars and only unlocked their true potential once they stopped trying to be scorers. Iggy specifically had much much better scoring ability that Hugo ever will. If Hugo tries to be early sixers Igggy he'll suck.

I certainly dont expect Hugo to reach that level, but if he's able to scrape star level impact it will be in that archetype rather than suddenly turning into a 20ppg scorer which has zero chance of happening.

Iguodala isn't a great comparison because he had a 20/5/5 peak, and was around that level for four seasons.  It doesn't look like Hugo has that type of game.

But, Iggy's post-Philly days are the epitome of a high-level role player who had a very large impact on winning.  It's a lofty goal for Hugo, because Iggy is one of the best to ever do it.  But, he does have a very good feel for the game.  Right now, I think he probably projects closer to Thabo Sefolosha than Iguodala, but hopefully he takes a leap.

This got me to look at Sam's stats and they are solid....fg% - 50%, 3p% -50%, but what really caught my eye was Sam is averaging 21.5 m/g and has yet to have a single turnover....4 games - 0 turnovers.  So its not only that he leads the Celtics in 3p% but also doesnt make mistakes when he is on the floor...

Hauser is so undervalued on this board at times.  While it's a small sample size above, I do believe he's much better (especially on defense) than people give him credit for.

He's a savvy veteran now who knows what he can/can't do.

Yep. I?ve said this before as well. Sam rarely makes mistakes and his defense is solid. This is why Joe plays him 22mpg which is the 5th most minutes played on the team.
