Anyone know if the stashed players (Begarin, and the guard whose name I’m forgetting) are playing SL or have any chance of making the roster?

They are not playing in summer league.  It’s not impossible Begarin gets a two-way spot next year, but Madar will only come over with a fully guaranteed spot.

Yam Madar

Probably not either:

The Celtics' 2020 second-round selection Yam Madar, 22, is coming off a breakout season for Partizan Belgrade, who played in EuroLeague for the first time in eight years. According to the EuroLeague, he averaged 5.8 points, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 rebounds on that stage while logging 13 minutes per contest.

The six-foot-three guard earned EuroLeague Rising Star honors. The award goes to the best player younger than 22 the previous summer. Past winners include Luka Doncic (2017-18), Ricky Rubio (2010), and Danilo Gallinari (2008).

Unfortunately for fans of Boston's NBA team hoping to see Madar stateside this summer, according to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, he's not expected to play for the Celtics' summer league squad this year.

Himmelsbach reports the same is true for Juhann Begarin, who is also unlikely to play for the franchise in Sin City due to commitments to their European clubs.

While Madar's progress is encouraging, Begarin seems more likely and more ready to make the jump to the NBA.

The 45th pick in the 2021 draft played the last two seasons for Paris Basketball in the top league in France. He's coming off a campaign where he averaged 11.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 26.3 minutes per game, per basketball-reference. And the 20-year-old wing who swiped 1.9 steals per contest in 15 EuroCup games could prove most valuable defensively

In his "break out" season.  Yeah, not too encouraging.

They both were gambles  folks.  Begarin has an NBA body and athletic ability but does not work on his game.  Yam is more limited with a high IQ but lacks true NBA athleticism

Never been a fan of Austin's scouting, I mistrust anyone who gets by on nepotism.

Brad Stevens expressed excitement over the Celtics’ acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis, which might signal how the president of basketball operations views the 27-year-old’s future in Boston.

“You’ve heard me talk about our playing big, playing long,” Stevens told reporters, per MassLive’s Brian Robb. “Kristaps can play with any combination of our players. He can play with (Robert Williams), he can play with Al (Horford), he can play as a standalone 5. He has just gotten better and better and better. You see what he was doing this year, and I thought the games that we played against him and the games that I watched with the most intent against other teams, I thought he just had really taken another step, too.”

“We hope so,” Stevens told reporters when asked about an extension. “You know, we’ll see how that stuff all works itself out. but he’s a guy that we think can certainly be a really good player. He’s been a really good player this far and has only gotten better. I think to me, that’s the part that really stands out. Sometimes when you’re the fourth pick in the draft and get all these accolades and all this attention and all these eyes and you’re going through your growth process, there’s some ups and downs. But he’s at a point where he’s starting to, I think, really play at his best I’ve seen. So we hope so.”

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens understands there could be some frustration for Brogdon over the situation but sounds like someone who believes Brogdon will be in Boston moving forward.

“Malcolm’s really important and that really, that was tough,” Stevens told NBC Sports Boston in an interview. “He certainly doesn’t deserve that, and I feel for him. We’ve talked obviously since then. There are a lot of narratives out there because of that that are certainly inaccurate.”

Stevens explained that Brogdon is currently in the midst of a four- to eight-week stretch of rest and rehab for the arm injury he suffered during the playoffs. The hope and the belief is Brogdon will be good to go when the season begins — presumably for the Celtics.

“He feels good, and we expect him to be back right at the start of the season and have the great year that he’s had every year he’s been in the league,” Stevens added. “We’re excited about that, but it’s hard for him. That’s the other part, like being in the rumors and stuff, that stinks. We’ve talked about it, that’s hard.”

The Celtics officially landed Kristaps Porzingis for at least one year via a three-team trade on Friday but they are reportedly looking to give him a home for far longer.

According to Substack’s Marc Stein, the Celtics are ‘strongly expected’ to give Porzingis a two-year extension this offseason. Porzingis opted into a $36 million player option for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday night ahead of a deadline but Boston will be appeal to offer him a two-year extension worth up to $77 million as soon as the first week of July.

so, you would rather they lose KP for nothing next year and be a one year rental? we traded for him because they clearly think hes the piece to get them over the top and want to make a 3 year run with it.  i'll never understand why fans care what Wyc pays players. like those who say to let Brown leave because hes "not worth the supermax"

you are worth what the market says you are worth. and if the celtics want to bring back banner 18 they need to spend.

TP.  Well said.  Who cares if the owners are willing to spend THEIR money to win championships.  Its why we watch.

Exactly. Also, we certainly pay enough money for tickets and merchandise, the owners a good profit, that profit only gets better if they maintain a great product.

I agree with this for the most part, at least to the point that I agree we should give the 2-year extension to Porzingis.  I don't think that contract will become a burden unless he suffers a serious injury.  Any player can suffer a serious injury.

But it is not in the owner's best interest or the fans interest to recklessly sign contracts, to overpay a player.  A bad contract can really hurt the team.  SAC just sent out a first round pick just to dump Richaun Holmes and his $12M contract.  Ouch.  But that is what signing a bad contract can do to you.  It eats up all the possibility to improve your team.

If you are gonna give a guy an extension, it makes sense to do it right during his prime years. KP is 27. Extending for two years make sense. There’s always an injury concern but you’d also be getting his prime years and then can just move away from him.

I would have thought this was obvious, but the reason people care about signign players to big contracts is because we have salary caps...and signing a guy like Jaylen Brown to a $295m contract has a major impact on what the team is able to do in the future to add more pieces to improve the team.

I didn't like the idea of signing JB to the supermax because the Tatum/Brown duo clearly has demonstrated that its not good enough to win a title, and I figured that signing brown to that contract would mean we wouldnt have the cap space to be able to sign another major piece later.

The fact that we were able to add KP (and have the potential to keep him long term) makes me feel better about this, because I do believe KP is the type of extra piece that could put the Celtics over the top adn take the team to that next level.

But if we re-signed Brown and didn't add a borderline All-Star level talent (which I consider KP to be) then I would sstill take issue with the Brown re-sign.  As thigns are I'm pretty happy ad exciting to see how we can go next year.
