And another blown 4th quarter lead with no timeouts or adjustments from incompetent Joe. How anyone has any trust in this guys whatsoever is beyond me. He literally sat there in the fourth quarter and watched us give up a 15-4 extended run with 4 TOs without making any adjustments or calling any timeouts to set up a good shot until 9 seconds left in the game and already critically behind.
So ridiculous. SO many of us were told that "this is just an early season tactic to build trust in his guys" and it wouldn't happen in the postseason. So much for that.
Smart cost the C’s the game, not Joe. Just horrible in crucial moments in the 4th.
Joe, Smart, and Tatum all had primary shares in this loss. But this thread is about Joe, so he gets the focus.
You can't seriously sit there and tell me you're fine with how he ended the game sitting on his hands letting our lead evaporate. That's non-sensical, terrible coaching.
So what adjustments should he have made? Timeouts don’t stop runs, the players stop the runs by playing defense. Rotation was the same as last game, minus Blake playing over Grant. Team didn’t play well down the stretch and a lot of that was Smart. Needed one stop at the end, couldn’t do it.
Well, you cited Smart. Why is he in the game down the stretch over Brogdon and/or White?
There's one adjustment.
The other is the extreme drop coverage on Trae, who hit several off of the awful PnR coverage down the stretch.
And even beyond those adjustments, you can call a timeout and just run a set action to get someone a good, set look. They were turning it over time after time because they were reeling and out of sorts. That's the EXACT time you call the timeout, calm them down, set up a good look, and help your team get back on track. Joe just sat on his hands and let them lose the game, a complete dereliction of his duty as coach.
The proof is in the pudding. His "hands off" philosophy has killed us all year and cost us several wins down the stretch.
