Celtics now have their starting frontcourt of Al Horford and Robert Williams signed for a total of $21 million next season.

Combined they would be the 62nd most expensive contract currently on the books next season.

Thrilled with signing but don’t think al should really start next year.

Who would you start in front of him?

Would you go small, with Timelord / Tatum?  Or are you thinking Grant?

I really learned to love the two-big lineup last year.  That's still my preferred way to go, but we can outmatch most teams either way.

I hope we get a good look at a Smart/White/Brown/Tatum/Rob lineup for a bit this season once Rob is back.  Al's deal is reserve-level -- I think the plan is for him to come off the bench at some point, be it later this season or next year, and the double-big lineup used sparingly.  Tatum has been the starting 4 and closing 4 for the majority of the season to date.  That has worked very well with Al, and I'd like to see it with Rob.  This would let Rob and Al tandem for the center, limiting both of their minutes, with Grant at the 4, sometimes pairing with Tatum, sometimes backing him up.

The double-big lineup could make occasional appearances depending on match-ups, but I don't think Rob nor aging Al are durable enough for them to both be in the primary starting lineup.

The bench would be Horford, G-Will, Hauser, Brogdon, Pritchard. They are all over 40% from 3.
Al and Rob alternate back-to-backs (replaced by Kornet/Griffin)

Not a one-year with a team option for the second year (along with a buyout)?

If Al falls off a cliff next year with his productivity, I guess we could look at it as a one-year, $20M deal that is just spread over two seasons.  Not bad I guess seeing that he's making $26M this year.

Wendell Carter Jr. is my ideal Al replacement, but I don't know if he's available. On the one hand, Orlando have a heap of 4/5 types - on the other, Carter Jr. is darn good

Boston doesn't have a lot of ability to get anyone during the season as it would be difficult for Boston to trade a rotation player with as good as the team has been playing.  So Boston is limited to the TPE's and a trade of someone like Gallo.
