Wonder how this impacts Grant's value?  Horford at about $10M, RWill at about $12M, Grant at $??M

Are they really going to pay Grant more than either Horford or RWill?

I assume Grant will get Smart type money in this current NBA, seeing his age and production. He would be a decent starter on a bad or middle ground team who has money to spend and is unable to attract top free agents.

If I were Stevens I would be resistant to give him that kind of cash. I have to also assume that Boston will become a destination for ring chasing vets willing to take below market deals seeing how well the last few seasons have gone. Something I am sure Stevens is considering as well in the grand scheme of things. Do we really need to overpay to keep Grant?

Will finish his career as a Celtic. As it should be. And on a cheap deal.

This is a great contract for a great team guy. He should have never went to Philly, and I'm glad Brad went out of his way to get him back.

I have to admit, I had been starting to think that part of the problem with our defense is that Horford lost a step.

While I do want him to be part of our rotation, I do think we need to obtain a 4-5 that can take his starting role. They'd need to be able to help the Js be successful, stretch the court, and play good defense.

I just can't figure out who or how to make that happen. Grant is an awesome sub to have, but he's not that guy.

Have to think one of Grant or White won't be on the team at some point. I get that Grant's next deal and Al's next deal probably won't be more than their current combine salaries, but Jaylen is going to make a LOT more money after next season.

I think they’ll give Grant more than Horford, yes.  Horford took a below-market deal.  Grant will hit the market in free agency and sign the deal that the market gives him.

I hope this isn’t the case but if it comes to that, I think I’d prefer to keep White over Grant.

Excellent news.  :D

I think they'd like Grant at 12 a year. I think they'll stretch up to 15 or maybe 16 if they have to in the market next summer. If a team pays him 17+ (which I don't really see happening), that is where I think the Cs might be at a walkaway point on Grant and use the MLE instead.

I don’t see why anyone would suggest the Celtics are going to move on from White.  He’s been great this year.

fantastic!!   this was a discount from his current deal that I didn't think we'd get close to.   just need to get Grant squared away now and then work on extending Jaylen after that.

told ya  ;)

This is true, White has been great, but we have more flexibility to move him based on the depth at his position as compared to if we lose Grant.  I guess if we are counting on Gallinari being back and healthy next season, that could help back fill if we lose Grant but if Gallinari is not in the mix, losing Grant would leave us really thin at PF.  That is why it could become necessary to consider trading White for a PF.

What a great contract for the team.  Hopefully, that makes it more likely they’ll retain other players.  Grant and I think Brogdon is in his last year of his contract.

Brogdon has two more years left on his contract. Grant's the only guy in the rotation (well, unless you count Blake) on an expiring deal.

I misread his contract on Spotrac.  You are right, he has two more years.  Thanks, tp.
