So Browns kicker missed a game winning 54 yard field goal. Those are still really far, yet I feel like everyone just expects their kicker to hit them from that distance. And I know kickers have bigger and bigger legs, but that is a really far kick.
So does every team just expect a 54 yarder to be a gimme these days and if so, isn't that just unrealistic?
Unless they have Justin Tucker (who is automatic from around the 53s or mostly anywhere), 50s are tough for many.
Then again, kickers have only one job and it's to score points by kicking
Carlson. McPherson. Tucker
Those are the 3 guys I trust the most if a team needs a 53+ yard field goal very late in the game to tie or win. Tucker more so than the other two obviously but McPherson and Carlson have typically been clutch in those situations too. Maybe there's another name or two I'm missing but there are a lot of kickers in the NFL and quite a few who are capable of hitting 55+, it's just they might not always convert it like Tucker.
Speaking of Tucker, he just nailed a 61-yarder like it was nothing. And got the entire stadium bowing to him with that pose
It was 58, but point well taken (I believe they put up a graphic that it would have been good from 61). I do think on some level his brilliance has clouded what people think is normal for kickers. Tucker isn't normal, yet when he just hits them with such ease everyone thinks their kicker should be able to do it.
