I think the clear answer here is to stop hiring guys named Matt.

The personnel problem is probably bigger.  Particularly on the defensive side, the team has played pretty well this season, despite not having a lot of big names.

But, if they want to fire the offensive line coach, that's fine with me.  They couldn't make any adjustments to help Braxton Jones, who was literally being pushed around?

I know this rebuild is going to take time but, man, that offense is really tough to watch and downright headscratching at times.

The Bears problem is treating Justin Fields more like Tom Brady than Lamar Jackson.  Fields greatest strength is his ability to keep plays alive with his legs by either running the ball or moving around to create time for people to get open.  And with a bad offensive line, his ability to move should be even more utilized.  Yet every time you watch the Bears, they keep Fields in the pocket way too much with pure passing play designs.  That just isn't who Fields is.  Fields is probably the 2nd or 3rd most adept running QB (clearly behind Jackson and right there with Hurts), yet you wouldn't know it watching them play.  That seems to be a coaching issue.

I just keep telling myself, Justin Fields can become Jalen Hurts.

I think Kyler Murray would be #2 behind Lamar Jackson in terms of running ability, but it agree that the Bears don’t seem to have a good system in place for Justin. If he can learn to run and slide before contact when there isn’t a pass play to be made or when the O-line is failing, that would help quite a bit.

I think Kyler's running is overrated, but he is obviously in the same general range as Hurts and Fields.  Either way, the Bears have just so mismanaged Fields it is hard to say what he could be.  At OSU he was a beast running and used that very well to pass, especially on the deep ball.  I'm not saying the Bears need to turn into the Ravens, but they should be utilizing Fields a lot better than they are.

lost in this debate over the Bears is the incompetence of Washington to screw up their shot at the #1 pick   >:(

Yeah, it's the problem with the new standard.  Fields is in pain, clearly.  We don't know if it's his ribs, his back, his head, or all of the above.  Is that enough to justify a third-party pulling him from the game?  I don't think so.

And, from what we've seen, that was the case with Bridgewater, as well.

That is much easier to justify removing than Bridgewater.  To at least run other tests.  I mean Fields is flat on his stomach, starts to get up, wobbles a bit and only makes it to his knees, then bends over on his knees before he finally gets up.  He had far more a "stumble" than Bridgewater did.  He absolutely should have been removed from the game, at least temporarily, under the new standard.

Was the Bears last play on 4th and goal reviewed? It was either not a catch, or if it was a catch, it should have been a touchdown since the ball crossed the white of the goal line. The one thing it was not, was what was called on the field.

I agree it wasn’t a catch.  Washington should have had the ball on the 4 instead of the 1.  It was pretty moot tho — maybe they took a quick look and concluded that it obviously wasn’t a touchdown, so the game was decided and the ball being on the 1 or 4 didn’t matter, rather than holding it up for 3 minutes reviewing whether he’d secured control by the time he went out of bounds.
