League sources tell MassLive that 2023 first round pick the Celtics are trading in Malcolm Brogdon deal is top-12 protected. If it doesn't convey this year, Pacers get a second-round pick instead.

Wow, nice job on the downside risk for Stevens on this.

Incredible! The Celtics are stuffing a Morgan, Fitts and Staukas in there to make the numbers work

Awesome.  We’ve added Gallo and Brogdon, and have only moved one quasi-rotation guy (Theis).

He was a regular rotation player during the season. Given the age and injury history of Al and TL, getting a rotation-quality third big is now a concern.

You'd have to think that Brad knew this though when he sent Theis away. S/B some third-string big available at a better contract number than Theis.

NBA trades are much more fun when you don’t have to worry about getting under the luxury tax.

Himmelsback reported a source that stated that Smart is the unquestioned starting point guard.

This coincides with Stevens saying multiple time that they wanted scoring off the bench.

Couple of interesting tidbits… Jaylen Brown and Malcolm Brogdon are both Georgia Natives and a few years back the two led a peaceful protest In Atlanta, which JB organized. They are both VP’s of the players Union as well. Hopefully Brogdon’s relationship with Brown helps the Celtics chances of keeping JB in Boston long term.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

It'll convey but protections never hurt.

New: Sources said the Cs spent weeks seeking ways to use their $17.1 million trade exception, but no deal was better than the Brogdon one. Also, a source stressed that Marcus Smart remains the unquestioned starting PG on this team.

It would be nice if they had someone they could use the Fournier TPE on, but you can't complain about what they've done so far.

By my calculations, the Celtics are currently $15 million over the luxury tax for next seasons and still have five roster spots to fill. Boston's front office making the most of ownership's willingness to spend in this offseason so far.

Yeah, Brogdon seemed out of reach being larger than the TPE.  I’m totally good with this move.

Per source - C’s goal is to continue with double big lineup, and that Malcolm Brogdon is viewed as a sixth man, behind Marcus Smart

Trade for someone so thst you have some contracts to trade when needed.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Great let's keep starting the 36 year old who fades game to game, quarter to quarter. I really hope C's bring Al off the bench and don't run him into the ground.

Makes for a really deep bench. Brogdon. White, Grant, Gallo... and two 40%+ shooters in PP and Hauser....

Exactly the type of move the Warriors would do. Just because you have a big roster doesn’t mean you should ever let an asset just disappear for nothing. Recoup the asset someway. Any other trade involves shipping away vital rotation pieces.
