Question: When was the last time that a trade was so universally loved by everyone on this board?

Mike

July 31st 2007, probably.

A lot of disappointed Ryan Gomes fans that day.

Hahaha
I won't soon forget having to throw out a perfectly good Sebastian Telfair jersey.

Last three players to record a 50/40/90% season (min. 25 MPG):

— Kyrie Irving
— Malcolm Brogdon
— Steph Curry

This is basically what the C’s needed in the Finals. Now Stevens needs to tell Udoka to limit his minutes in the regular season lol

Glad they are spending the money not cheap tax bill will be 50+ next year, little concern with the 3pt percentage last year and games played.

Incredible! The Celtics are stuffing a Morgan, Fitts and Staukas in there to make the numbers work

Awesome.  We’ve added Gallo and Brogdon, and have only moved one quasi-rotation guy (Theis).

He was a regular rotation player during the season. Given the age and injury history of Al and TL, getting a rotation-quality third big is now a concern.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

C’s just need a decent body to help limit their minutes in the regular season. That 3 big isn’t going to leave the bench in the playoffs much anyways.

Might be easier to bring Brogdon off the bench in terms of keeping everyone happy in terms of touches and shot attempts.

I wonder if it may be difficult keeping Brogdon, Jaylen and Tatum happy and all as involved as they would like if all three are starting.

Bringing Brogdon off the bench allows you spread their minutes a bit easier and distribute shots and touches easier. Keep 2 of the 3 on the court at all times to maintain the offense. Finish the game will all 3 on the floor.
Given the struggles at times last year and the finals I'm changing it up. Bring Al off the bench. He is 36, coming off the bench he may smoke teams and dominate more.

Start
Brog, Smart, JB, JT, TL
Bench
PP, White, GW, Gallo, Al
I don't think you can start Tatum at PF.  He is at his best at SF and I don't want him guarding and being guarded by bigger guys for large portions of the game.  Sure here and there he is fine as a smaller PF, but not starting.  That is why I was glad to see Udoka starting Horford and Rob (and them being able to do it).  The roster has to be about maximizing Tatum and to do that he needs to play SF as much as possible.

Tatum has a matchup advantage one way or the other. The TEAM has a size advantage when he’s playing with two bigs - one reason Boston’s defense was so dominating.

Gallo and GW both play some 5. I actually feel Gallo's best as a stretch 5. Between the four of them and Tatum playing some PF as well they are covered. We need a Wing to help the Jays

He had a trickery hamstring injury (after coming back from a different injury earlier in the season) that I believe affected his shot, in a small sample size.

He’s a career 38% shooter from three, and has shot 42% on catch and shoot 3’s. I think we will be looking for him to shoot more off the catch than the dribble (similar to how he was used in Milwaukee, when he always seemed to be a thorn in our side).

His propensity to miss games due to random injuries is a little concerning, but his shooting and playmaking is a very welcome addition that we greatly need.

Excellent move by Brad without touching any major rotational pieces (sorry Theis!).

This is an awesome move. We gave up very, very little. I really want us to go after a depth big man given Al is old and Rob can get hurt, but I love the makeup of this team.

I never thought we’d be able to get Brogdon for so cheap.

Looks like a good deal to me. Brogdon is a first rate PG and scorer.
He is, however, prone to injury, and misses games.
But he fits right into their top core of players, and they didn't give up a lot for him.
Theis is gone, and that means they are signing another big--maybe Bryant.
They also signed Gallinari, who is getting older, but has become less injury prone the past few years.
Everybody knows he can shoot.
They need a big who can defend and block shots, and they'll be all set.
Bryant can play. Has some offense.  I don't know about his D.

Boston plays lots of two-big lineups. Horford will miss games to rest; hard to tell about Rob but the history isn’t encouraging. So the third big, while always an important role in an 82-game season, is more so for the Celtics. This is why Daniel got so many minutes (18.7 per) - there’s a need for another rotation-quality big.

First Stab at a General Rotation:

1 - Smart (30) / Brogdon (18)
2 - Brown (14) / White (24) / Brogdon (10)
3 - Tatum (28) / Brown (20)
4 - Horford (2) / Grant (20) / Gallinari (20) Tatum (6)
5 - Rob (26) / Horford (22)

Totals:
Tatum (34)
Brown (34)
Smart (30)
Brogdon (28)
Rob (26)
Horford (24)
White (24)
Grant (20)
Gallinari (20)

Not saying this is how it will end up. More of a thought exercise. What it showed me right away is that (pending changes/additions/subtractions) Al would need to spend most of his minutes at the 5 to get everyone to a minutes range they’d likely anticipate. Consequently, while my initial thought was to keep the starting 5 and have Brogdon be a 6th man, it might be easier rotation wise to start Brogdon and bring Al off the bench.

League sources tell MassLive that 2023 first round pick the Celtics are trading in Malcolm Brogdon deal is top-12 protected. If it doesn't convey this year, Pacers get a second-round pick instead.
