I hate to be that guy but I loved the trade until I saw Brogdon is making 22.5 mil for the next three years. Thats a TON of cash for a guy who is always hurt.

So as of now we have Smart at 19 mil, White at 17.5 mil and Brogdon at 22.5 Mil.. thats a lot of money tied into one position. Pritchard is a small 2.5 mil so he is irrelevant to the equation - but a viable 3rd option at that position.

There has to be another move coming. I feel like we'll be hearing about a Smart trade shortly.

That's if you consider all of them purely PG's, all three are combo guards who can mix and match together.

PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Not to nit pick but for the 2022-23 season, per Spotrac:

Smart     $17.2M
White      $16.9M
Brogdon  $22.5M

Still too much to be tied up in combo guards for which there will not be enough minutes so I agree, there could very well be another move where White or Smart are traded for a wing.  Or we can still bring in a wing via a TPE and just be thankful for the depth.  The salary for the tax calculation is not set until the end of the season.  So for example, we could trade White at the deadline to reduce salary.

I guess the more I think about this, why not just sign a wing with the TPE and start the season, let things play out.  If we do end up trading Smart or White, there is likely more value at the trade deadline anyway.  At a minimum, we should not feel pressure to make a trade just to make a trade.

All three of those guys are not your typical combo guards. They can all guard 1-3, and Smart can guard 1-4 (5). We aren't out of balance as is.

Rotation Projection:
G (96 min): Smart (28) / Brogdon (28) / White (20) / Jaylen (16) / Pritchard (4, but there will be more w/ injuries)
F (96 min): Tatum (32) / Horford (10) / Jaylen (16) / Grant (18) / Gallinari (20)
C (48 min): Rob (28) / Horford (14) / Grant (6)

That totals:
Smart 28
Jaylen 32
Tatum 32
Horford 24
Rob 28

Brogdon 28
White 20
Grant 24
Gallo 20

Pritchard and our eventual 3rd string center will get some minutes too, especially when other players miss games.  Once we get that guy, that will be a solid 11 men to roll into the season with.
2020 CelticsStrong All-2000s Draft -- Utah Jazz

Finals Starters:  Jason Kidd - Reggie Miller - PJ Tucker - Al Horford - Shaq
Bench:  Rajon Rondo - Trae Young - Marcus Smart - Jaylen Brown -  Peja Stojakovic - Jamal Mashburn - Carlos Boozer - Tristan Thompson - Mehmet Okur

Pacers took five Celtics!! Never seen a five for one trade.

What else is Brad cooking up? Now have a few roster spots to fill - vet min guys? - and the TPE is still in play.

Hopefully, this will shut some people up.

Celtics now committed to roughly $167.5 million for 11 players. Brad said ownership gave him the OK to spend and he wasn't kidding.

Love the trade.  That is the type of move that can make an actual difference.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Is it really, though? Can't imagine the team spending much more money. Already $160 mill for 11 guys.

This seems like the kind of trade a homer Celtics fan would propose on this board and get laughed off of it. Unless his injuries are of serious concern this seems like a huge steal. We gave away absolutely nothing. The first rounder will be in the late 20s or even 30.

Dead on!

I hope he shoots that or better this year! Definitely improved the talent level of our squad!

Ray Allen trade was like a 4 for 1 and KG to Celtics was a 7 for 1 trade
