As I posted elsewhere I think this trade makes some level of sense for both teams

Smart, White, Nesmith, 23 1st, 25 1st (top 4)

for

Beal, Smith

so post-trade contracts

PG - Beal, Pritchard, Smith
SG - Brown
SF - Tatum, Hauser, Stauskas
PF - Horford, Grant, Morgan, Fitts
C - Rob, Theis

That leaves 2 open roster spots with all the TPE's and the TMLE though not much draft capital.  Team clearly could use a wing or two, but I think there may be some targets out there with the TPE's that might serve more as salary dumps for the team trading i.e. guys like Duncan Robinson or Maxi Kleber.

Can Beal really run point?

Beal to MIA for Herro & filler (D.Robinson or Lowry).

Beal gives Jimmy a legit 2nd option. Big Three with Bam.

One thing we may be overlooking: Beal said he’s been recruited a lot. We know that Tatum’s favorite players are Beal and Timelord because he said so in a post-game press conference a few weeks ago. Brown is not exactly looking like an all-star after all those turnovers in the Finals (and who knows why the guys reverted back to 2021 Celtics in the Finals, but if it’s because of one or more players falling back on old habits, ship ‘em out if that’s what Tatum wants us to do, especially if it lands one of his favorite players). Frankly, if we shipped Brown for Beal, I bet it ends up being perceived by most NBA followers as an exciting upgrade (even though I am inclined to slightly disagree, I’m talking general consensus among shooting-obsessed media and most fans). Chemistry matters a lot and I’ve always believed we do not have EPIC chemistry like dynasties have. Maybe swapping Brown for Beal gets us that epic chemistry to get us to the next level. I do think this may be smoke and we may have some fire to this in the near-future. Stay tuned.

I'd do Beal for Brown.

A question to ask is, do we think JT & JB will play their whole careers (or at least most of it) with the C's?  I get the sense JB doesn't like playing second fiddle to JT.  Especially after JT's finals perfomance and the consensus amongst fans and media that JB "fought until the end" while JT looked lost.  JB's contract is up in 2 years, might he be looking for an extension next year?

A team that just got to game 6 of the Finals, with a young talented core, is not trading  one of their top 3 players for Beal. That's just not realistic, especially with Stevens in charge.

Beal is a better passer than Smart, though not the ball handler.  I think he'd be fine as the PG on the team.  He'd also make Boston unguardable in the backcourt as that would be by far the best and most dynamic trio of players in the league.  There is no team that could guard Beal, Brown, and Tatum collectively.  Obviously Boston would lose some defense, but it is the offense that failed them in the playoffs, not the defense.  Beal would be a tremendous overall upgrade if the price was Smart and White and picks.  Still need to fill in depth, but with the TPE's and TMLE, I think it would happen, especially since with Beal, Boston would be a clear top team and perhaps the favorites.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Yeah, that’s a pretty bad return for Washington. White and Smart are repetitive, both combo guards that are very good defensively, but can’t shoot. Nesmith is worthless at this point and the picks most likely aren’t going to be very good for the next 3+ years. Jrue holiday netted New Orleans: Steven Adams, Eric Bledsoe, two future first round picks, right to swap two additional first round picks. Beal is a better player, The Wizards would never accept that offer.

I’d love Beal here, but I don’t think Brad will trade Horford. I have a hard time thinking he’d trade Brown as we just came within 2 wins of a title with a team that should get incrementally better just through experience / age.

But… I’d love Beal here.

You are not thinking about it right. The Wizards have zero leverage. If Beal wants to go to Boston he tells them they have two options 1) he’ll opt in to his contacts but only if they trade him to Boston or 2) he’ll opt out of his contract and they’ll get nothing.

So the trade simply has to be better than nothing. Smart is reigning DPOY and we just gave up a first and a pick swap for White. So they both have value. It might take a third team to make it all work, but if Beal wants to come to Boston and the Cs want him, a deal can absolutely get done.

Beal for Smart and White works.

Beal holds all the cards. If he wants to play with Tatum and the Cs want him, it will happen. If he prefers Miami then that would suck, but everything I’ve read is he is tight with Tatum. If it doesn’t happen this year I’m not sure when they’d be able to team up.

He's someone I don't really understand. Every time he makes cryptic comments about wanting to win, yet he has stuck with horrible Washington teams for more money all his career.

He's like one of those guys who is just comfortable with where he is. Like people who stay in jobs that might not be super challenging even if there are better opportunities elsewhere, because having to change can be stressful. He would rather try and change where he is than move elsewhere. That's always been my read of him (from far away, admittedly).
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Since when is loyalty considered a negative characteristic? Staying with the Wiz doesn't necessarily mean he values money over winning. He may wanna stay loyal to the team that drafted him. Whatever the case may be, I couldn't care less tbh. All I care is weather he's good enough to help us raise banner #18. The way I see it, he'd make the C's the #1 favorites to win it all next season. That's all that matters.

Btw, most of the scenarios in this thread assume he will opt in to help us facilitate a trade without having to deal with the restrictions of the hard cap. It's a bit contradictory to think he values money over winning, while at the same time expect from him to opt in and lose money in the process.
