Finishing up the 1st season of Outlander on Netflix.  About a British nurse/surgeon during WW2, while visiting Scotland with her husband, is somehow transported back to 1743 Scotland and is forced to start a new life.  Lot's of fighting and history about a Scottish rebellion against the King of England.  I find it very entertaining.

Just finished season 1 of ?Landman? on Paramount +. Billy Bob Thorntons performance as Tommy Norris is incredible. If the show ends up going for a few seasons - and I think it will - I think that character will go down as an all-time iconic TV character. the show is worth watching just for his character alone.

People had been recommending Landman to me since its pilot, but the premise didn?t sound very compelling to me. And I must admit: the show didn?t make me care any more about the oil business and how independent oil companies operate in the modern day than I already did. It?s the characters and their relationships which make this show a worthwhile experience.

There?s a lot going on in this show. It builds great tension and really hits its stride halfway through the season. Unfortunately, I think it kind of fizzles out towards the end without any really satisfying pay-offs.

Overall, I?d give it an 8.2 out of 10, and would definitely be interested in watching another season.

Yeh.  It took some growing into.  The mother/daughter were a tough side story to me, but they made them a little more endearing.  Billy Bob carries a lot of weight in that show in a way that is very well suited for him.

I thought Billy Bob was good, but I seemed liked 40% of the show was hypersexualized women.  I don't mind eye candy, but not to the extent that the writing relies upon it as filler.

Then, the other major female characters are a damsel in distress and a super-aggressive attorney who would last 30 seconds in real life.

I just don't like how Sheridan writes female characters.  Somebody commented above, but his best women are the ones who have classically male traits (Beth Dutton, maybe Lionness).  I think the lone exception is maybe Helen Mirren in 1923.

Season 2 of The Bear is awful. What happened?  ???

Almost shut it off, but I finished the season. Finale was decent. 2 episodes into the most recent and it?s been better. Soundtrack is really good.

I love R.E.M.  I don't know how a band that has sold that many records can be underrated, but they are.

I can't even remember how many seasons of the Bear there have been.  If I'm remember correctly, I liked the second season.  The third season was very well done in some aspects, but it didn't really advance the story a lot.

The Christmas episode of Season Two is incredible television.  I think its one of great episodes of any TV show.

?Fishes?  ;D.

Jamie Lee Curtis is incredible in that show.

I didn't make it through the 1st episode of Landman.  I'm not a Billy Bob fan and based on the little I saw that's the only reason I could think to watch the series.

What does Sheridan do well other than ride the Yellowstone hit to a lot of other opportunities?  Kelly Reilly is the main reason Beth Dutton works.  The Beth/Rip relationship is great to soften her character but otherwise the writing goes over the top too much with the character.  Referring to Helen Mirren rather the character's name suggests it is the actress who is notable more so than the character.

Does Sheridan do male characters well?  John Dutton is very one dimensional.  I do like Rip but he's rather one dimensional without the Beth relationship.  Tulsa King is just a vehicle for Stallone to do his tough guy character.  Do any of his characters, male or female, show any growth?  As for his storylines, it is a mixed bag but with a lot of misses.  The 1923 Indian girl storyline was bad and the African storyline was terrible.  Yellowstone storylines were just who's next to go after the ranch.

Great question.  You're correct that there's not a lot of nuance there.  I just tend to like stereotypical leading males, I think.  Well, to some degree.  I don't like how those characters usually suck as husbands and fathers, with their wives existing to be cheated on and helpless.

It's why we all love Rip.  He's got the male stereotypes, while still putting his family first.

I've really enjoyed Outlander.  I'm all caught up having just finished watching the 7th season.  After the 8th and final series comes out, I might just read the books.  Claire and Jamie's relationship is the core of the series and is one of the best ever in TV shows.

I finished up American Primeval on Netflix a couple days ago.  I enjoyed it.  I'm a sucker for a good western, and this was very good.  Not groundbreaking, but very good.

Thinking of bingeing that while I wait for Season 2 of 1923  :police:

Season 3 of White Lotus is excellent so far.

Anthology series are typically hit or miss (mostly miss) but WL seems like it has only gotten better every season. Definitely my pick for TV show of the decade (so far).

Just finished bingeing both seasons of Silo, and it's really good. The season 2 finale was awesome.
