And there it is.  Miami.

Chiefs are trading six-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks: a 2022 1st-round pick (No. 29), a 2nd-round pick (No. 50) and a 4th-round pick, as well as 4th- and 6th-round picks in the 2023 draft, sources tell ESPN.

Have the Chiefs just decided they don't want titles any more?

It's good draft capital, but Mahomes + Kelce + JuJu isn't winning jack.  They must have worried he was going to demand $30 million?

On the other end, Tyreke + Waddle is a great duo, but does anybody trust Tua to get them the ball?  A bottom-10 QB + a lousy running game.
When I saw the trade, I asked myself why KC was moving Hill. Then I realized, that's what happens when your QB's $40+ million per year deal kicks in.

This is why no one will ever break Brady's Super Bowl records. If you're an amazing QB but make your team pay you absolute top dollar, they're going to be unable to put the pieces around you to consistently vie for championships.

You’re 100% correct.  You need to win in your skilled players first five years, or you’re screwed.  It’s why Cincy has a window now.

KC, in my opinion, should have gone all-in this year.  Keep Hill.  Tag him in the off-season, trade him then.  You get less of a return, but also have a legit chance at a title.

I’m puzzled why the Chiefs wouldn’t have traded for Robert Woods if they were going to make a deal like this.

Safe to say KC's "dynasty" cuts short now that Hill is gone and the Chiefs have been exposed throughout the years after their Superbowl win.

AFC West might be Denver's year...look out.

Hill’s contract: 4 years/$120M, $72M guaranteed. Yeesh.
Wow..bad trade for Miami..Tua is not even close to Mahomes so will have trouble getting ball to Hill

He did fine at getting it to Waddle. Both guys are great after the catch and they got a few RBs that are good after the catch too. That doesn't mention Gesiki either. Sounds like Tua won't have any excuses.

Fine is probably relative.

104 receptions is great.  Just over 1000 yards is meh.
for a possession type receiving that is a rookie coming off an injury, that is pretty darn good.  Ja'Marr Chase is the exception not the rule.

Or they set themselves up better long term.  Step back for a year, but got better going forward.  They got 5 picks including 2 in the top 50 of the draft in a month.  They have Mahomes signed so long that he will certainly be underpaid during the contract (if he isn't already).

The Chiefs will also most likely sign Valdes-Scantling and I've heard OBJ is a possibility.  They still have the best TE and QB in football.  They won't be as good this year, but should still be among, if not the, favorite in the AFC and got a lot of draft capital to add to the team (they have all of their picks as well).

They need to take Jameson Williams if they’re looking long-term.

I’m skeptical of them as AFC favorites this season.  I think they miss the playoffs.

Happy to have Malcolm Butler back, seems like a fair deal for both sides. With Tyreke Hill going to Miami it would be great if Belichick could convince Stephon Gilmore to come back as well.

I think BUF is the team to beat this year in the AFC.

Chiefs championship window is narrowing.  AFC West is going to be a rock fight for the foreseeable future now. I actually really like what the Chargers are building.

Friendly wager?  I don't know your feelings on betting, but I'll bet a steak dinner (whatever the cost of a bone-in ribeye is at Longhorn / Texas Roadhouse, delivered via Paypal or Venmo) that they miss the playoffs.  If Mahomes misses 3+ games, you're let out of the bet.

If I lose, at least I got to feed a loyal Celtics fan, haha.

Yep, I've said it religiously over the past year but I've always felt Denver was just a QB away. Solid defense that's getting better/growing, some real weapons on offense and emerging talent, and now they add Russell Wilson in place of Drew Lock (lol) at QB. Massive upgrade. I also think Fangio was a bit overrated as HC and so it might simply be "addition by subtraction" getting rid of him, adding Hackett and also adding a true QB veteran in Wilson.

Denver's my current pick to win the AFC West. But either way, KC isn't going to have it easy in the division anymore. Before it was almost always a guaranteed 5-1 with a loss to the Chargers mixed in, but now it might be tough to even go 4-2 within the division. Even the Raiders have improved a lot.

I think the NFC is actually pretty easy to put in tiers. In no particular order within each tier:

Tier 1 - Rams, Bucs
Tier 2 - Packers, Niners, Cowboys

Cardinals and Niners are a bit tough to really say for sure due to their murky QB situations but they're up there (I put SF 2nd tier).

AFC though is loaded. I think your list is pretty spot on. I also have the Top-5 (in no particular order) of Buffalo, KC, Baltimore, LA Chargers and Cincinnati. Baltimore dealt with a TON of injuries last season including to Lamar but they'll be back for sure. I was debating between Chargers and Broncos for a spot but ultimately think Chargers for now. Denver's probably solidly at #6 in my power ranking of the AFC.

Denver had Teddy Bridgewater last year.  Obviously not as good as Wilson, but also significantly better than Drew Lock.  They were 7-7 with Teddy while Lock was 0-3.  And to acquire Wilson they give up their stud TE in Fant, a very good DL in Harris, along with 5 draft picks (2 1's, 2 2's, and a 5) and of course Lock.  They got Wilson and a 4 back.  They gave up a lot of draft capital, their leading receiver, their leading pass rusher (most sacks and QB Hits), and a recent 2nd rounder.  They did add Gregory to replace Harris, which is a solid move, but they haven't replaced Fant yet.  Their OL isn't very good and Gordon is entering his 8th year which is a lot of miles on a RB.  Jeudy and Sutton is a fantastic WR duo though.  Denver seems like the clear 3rd or 4th best team in the AFC West.  I don't think they are as good as the Chiefs or Chargers and may not even be as good as the Raiders (who quietly got a lot better).  The AFC West is going to be very tough, but the Chiefs still look like the best team in the division to me.

But ofc, there is the Superbowl hangover...teams who lose the Superbowl tend to do bad the next season.
