Boston Celtics
@celtics
Brad Stevens says we’ll be looking to fill out our roster with multiple “skilled” players, including a couple of anticipated additions later today.

Keith Smith mentioned they will explore converting Same Hauser to a standard contract.

This was a list Keith had on Twitter and said could head to BOS:

Ryan Arcidiacono
Sam Hauser (Two-Way)
Luke Kornet
Jaysean Paige
Brodric Thomas (Two-Way)
Denzel Valentine

Wouldn't mind a couple of them finding their way onto the C's roster.

I'd prefer not to convert Hauser and Thomas; it seems like a waste at this point.  How has Valentine looked in Maine?  I'd be down with Kornet again.

So I looked and Valentine’s numbers look pretty good in Maine. I realize it’s G league, but 17 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6 assists sounds like he might be worth a shot. Also over 40 percent 3 point shooting. I liked him out of college.

Kornet is a decent deep bench big. After that, I’d be looking for buy out guys

I believe they said they will sign some guys to 10 days while they wait for the buyout market to materialize.

I think we've gotta sign two guys today, so we should get news on a couple of those 10-days soon.

Not reporting, but guessing... Boston seems to have directed Maine to hold a bunch of guys out last night. Hauser and Thomas are on Two-Ways, so they'll be with the C's tonight. I'm guessing at least two of the Arcidiacono, Kornet, Paige group get a 10-Day today.

Funny that in the tweet Keith Smith calls guessing, he does about the only bit of reporting I've ever seen him do.  If Maine held out a bunch of guys last night, that makes sense.

And indeed, the Maine Celtics went with a six man rotation last night.  All of Kornet, Hauser, Thomas, Arcidiacono, Paige and Valentine were held out.

Chris Clemons, meanwhile, had 38 / 15 / 14.

Looks like he’s only played in two games thus far. First game: 28 mins, 23pts, 17reb, 8ast, 6-14 from the field, 5-10 from 3pt.

Second game: 39 mins, 27pts, 9ast, 9reb, 7-13 from 3pt and 10-20 from the field. I’ve always been a fan of his since college. I know Valentine has been plagued by injuries since coming into the league, but I’d like to see what he can do off the bench.

Here are his highlights from the games:

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Was at the Red Claws game last night. Kornet and Valentine didn't suit up. Hauser wasn't there at all afaik.

Valentine had been playing very well. Could be a decent deep bench player.

Brad Stevens on the immediate roster needs: "We're going to had two today. Then we'll add what we need. More insurance on our frontline is important. And we've talked about adding shooting. Ideally, some shooting with size. 3/4 sized guys. That's what we'll do near-term."

Nice insights. I think Stevens really likes Kornet as a bench big.

Kornet certainly fits that description.

I could see him being effective next to a defensive-minded player like Robert Williams. With the team playing so well we can hide Kornet's deficiencies a lot better while simultaneously making better use of his shooting.

Honestly if I were a buyout player or a FA the Celtics are an ideal destination right now. Anybody who comes here is gonna have a chance to get some open shots and carve out some sort of role.

Placeholders with the chance to earn rest of the season spot.

Hauser is 21 ppg on 41% shooting from 3 from the g-league. He may be the shooting we need. He's a little longer than Duncan Robinson, but he's also a little slower. The main thing is that he has to figure out how to hold his ground a little bit on defense. I've got memories from the summer league and this NBA season how opposing guards (good and bad) would easily get to the basket and score over him.
