I don’t get it. One of the best shooting prospects last season. Great PG skills. He’s not Jimmer Fredette on the defensive side of the ball. He can actually guard halfway decent.

We need to develop this kid. Somehow, someway. I know he’s not Van Fleet on defense, but he’s like Fred in a lot of other attributes. It’s disgusting how man DNP’s -Coaches Decisions he’s logged. Not good.

The highlight of his leftie dunk the other day was pretty awsome

Even though I don't mind PP not getting minutes. Could get some next year if he's better - but he's not better than JRich.

Didn't Brad say at one point that Pritchard has had some injury issues that have been restricting his playing time?  I seem to recall this in in one of the interviews somebody posted here maybe 2 or so week back.

I think he also said he's looking at possible roster changes because they want Pritchard and Nesmith to have bigger roles.

Think the bolded bit might have been a well sourced rumor rather than a quote from Brad iirc.

The other bit might be a quote from Brad indeed.

I'd say he's limited because of two reasons.

1. We've been trying (and succeeding?) to get our core rotation players to play well together by giving them lots of minutes where we can
2. PP struggles when defences press him, and halfway through last year, other teams started realising that

If I recall correctly one of the members here actually copy and pasted the interview directly.

Clearly Ime considers he is a less valuable contributor at this point than Smart, Schroder or JRich. Whose minutes would he take?

The obvious answer is Schroder…if we trade him. Maybe they don’t think PP can make up Schroders contribution right now.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

The flip side to that is that if Ime and Brad wanted Aaron and Payton to have bigger roles they can give them bigger roles right now. He’s had many opportunities to give them more playing time especially in the past 10 games when we have had big leads.

Sometimes the most obvious answer is the correct one - there’s other players in the team that Ime and Brad consider to be ahead in terms of impacting winning. I don’t think the trust is quite there yet. But that doesn’t mean it never will be - Timelord “rotted on the bench” for a couple of years and look at him now. That’s also something Brad said in the interview, lack of PR doesn’t mean they’ve given up on them. Sometimes they need more seasoning

That might have been me  :police: and yes he did say Payton struggled with an injury, I forget what it was but I can look it up later.

I was excited about him at times last year, but I’m not sure he is going to get much better. He was old for a rookie.

Could be various things.

70% Dennis Schroeder deserves minutes.
5% Aaron Nesmith needs minutes too.
25%, other stuff.

Great shooter but don't really agree with the great point guard skills part.  I've never been impressed with his passing or running of the team.

Or his dribbling.

Again, he's undersized and struggles under pressure due to it. Doesn't have the crazy athleticism of IT or speed of DS or PG skills of Barea to make up for it.

Exactly.  Once he decides that he's going to drive past his defender he doesn't always lose the guy entirely, and he doesn't really seem to see the court and make point guard/high IQ decisions on these drives either.

That, and he picks up his dribble at ill advised moments.

He literally could keep dribbling but often picks it up because he sees 2 or 3 people in front of him.

JT/JB have this happen too - they can pass out because they're tall enough.

PP, ehhh not so much :)

.edit: it's actually kinda fun watching for this happen during games - do recommend.

I agree with all this assessment but do his shortcomings out weigh his +40% 3 pt shooting and range?
