Reading more about the recovery time between Grade 2 ankle sprain (4-6 weeks) and Grade 3 sprain (several months), the Celtics report that he sustained a Grade 3 sprain and is expected to miss 4 weeks makes no sense.  A Grade 3 sprain involves a complete tear of the ligaments, and is often followed up with surgery.

I'm hoping that Hayward only sustained a Grade 2, which matches the projected time table for his return of 4 weeks (2 and a half weeks to go).

If he really did sustain a Grade 3 sprain, there is no way he would be coming back for the playoffs; his season would be finished.

Hope one of the reporters clears this up by asking the team at some point.

Yeah, I had a grade 3 ankle sprain back in college and I couldn't walk without crutches for 3 months. I didn't regain normal running ability for a year, and didn't regain normal ankle mobility for another 2 years. If he had a grade 3 sprain he's not coming back for these playoffs.

There are a million media personnel covering the Celtics, and not one of them to my knowledge has even thought to raise this question.

Weak.

There just aren't many well-trained sports journalists (or journalists of any kind) these days.

I'm sure off the record most of them know the reality of it.

So has anyone heard or seen anything of interest related to Hayward’s recovery recently?

As much as I've heard or seen about Lowry's injury

This is odd.  I mean isn't he supposed to be out of the bubble again in a couple weeks for the birth of his child?
Not that it is a bad thing to have our guys together, just seems weird.

I had the same thought. What's the point of his returning to the bubble if he's going to leave again? Unless you think he can return for at least a game before his wife gives birth, but that sounds unlikely.

Sounds like he is being a good teammate and trying to get back if he can, even if he might become unavailable again quickly.

Never hurts to have all the guys together and cheering each other on.

Getting work in with the coaches/team. Even if he isn't ready to play, that doesn't mean he isn't ready for lower impact workouts/shootarounds/practice
I'm bitter.

Unless they are having a nose job or whatever and doesn’t want to be seen with bandages or bruising.
