This was also confusing. Is Gordon planning on staying in the bubble for the duration (should the Cs continue their run) or will he be leaving again? This tweet from Robyn seems to insinuate he might be staying in.

I will say, I was a little frustrated when I first heard he was going to leave, but if he is changing his mind, then major props to him. I think we would all welcome him back!

I mean, if she goes in the next week or so when Gordy is still recovering, then he might as well go and be there at the birth.

But I do wonder if the injury has changed things with him. He'd probably (fairly or not) catch a lot of crap if he gets cleared to play and then leaves when he's capable of playing after missing all this time with the injury.

But Hayward is also expected to leave the bubble again in the coming weeks to be with his family for the birth of his fourth child and first son, who is due in mid-September Hayward will once again be subject to a four-day quarantine when he returns from that

So if we can somehow get through this series AND the ECF, he should be good to go for the finals DEFINITELY then, right?

Oh well. Maybe after we finish off the Raptors, we will rattle off 4 straight against the Heat with Hayward in mid-season form. Then he can take his time at home with his family and be ready to go for the Finals. One can only hope  :D

If so, I think the best move would be to play him as a 6th man. Really tough to just throw him back in the starting five after the team built chemistry through playoffs imo. This would be beneficial for the team AND for him. But we're not quite there yet anyway

If the ECF is over quickly, there would be quite a long wait for the finals, since it looks like the series in the West are gonna be closer. Could wait a week or so, which benefits us.

Personally, I wonder if what is quoted is still accurate.  It's not much of an article to begin with, <300 words based off a tweet which is based off an instagram post, with apparently no new quotes or sources, there's not even an author listed (unless I'm just missing it).  I wouldn't be surprised if that part about Hayward leaving for the birth is pre-injury, and the author just assumed it was still accurate (which it very well might be).  Not trying to question the journalistic integrity here, but these mistakes do happen, especially with low effort pieces such as this.  Plus all other sources on Hayward's return (boston.com, WEEI, NBC Sports, NESN), either don't mention him leaving again, or specify that leaving for the birth was the plan from July. I would like to hear from a trusted source that this has been re-confirmed though before I write it off completely.

I'm with a lot of you, returning to the bubble seems like an odd move if he's just going to leave again soon, though I can think of a couple of scenarios that would make it less odd:

* Hayward was okay missing 2-3 games for the birth, but not 10-12, so the injury changed his (or his family's) mind.

* They're trying to game the bubble system.  Maybe once you've left the bubble for X number of days, you then have to re-quarantine for the full 7 days, so Hayward is coming back now before that deadline to reset the clock.  That way when he leaves again for the birth, he'll only have to re-quarantine for 4 days, instead of the full 7 had he stayed out the whole time, which would allow Hayward to be available 3 days earlier.

For whatever it’s worth, Jackie interpreted Robyn’s post to mean Hayward was in the bubble to stay.

In less happy news, the article also indicates Gordo suffered some nerve damage.

Ya it feels like we're all speculating too much based off a social media post that could mean hes staying, or it could just mean when he's back for the birth Robyn will be having the baby and he'll no longer the only boy. Until we see something that says his plans have changed my guess is they haven't.

I wonder if maybe for some reason Hayward expects he'll have to quarantine for longer than 4 days, maybe he couldn't get testing everyday he was out or whatever. And Stevens did say the doctors were trying to figure out his quarantine. If that's the case he might have come back now to get a longer quarantine out of the way while he's still injured with the expectation that "resets" his quarantine clock and he get's back to the minimum 4 day quarantine we he returns from his child's birth.

But now I'm wildly speculating.

Assuming we get to the conference finals, I would expect that he would play himself back into condition in that round, and that he could make a significant contribution were we to make it into the finals.  To me that is the most optimistic timetable that is reasonable.

If what Jackie interprets is true (that G will stay in bubble for remainder of playoffs, even when his son is born), that shows a great sacrifice he is making for his team. One that I'm sure his teammates will greatly appreciate!!

Yeah, I doubt Jackie would have drawn that conclusion solely on the basis of that IG of Robyn.  She was in a room with Danny Ainge, pretty sure he knows the 411 on this!!

I mean maybe, but it certainly felt like more speculation than anything. Its the only thing she cited in the article on the topic. If Ainge said something to confirm that it certainly would be in the article. I think its entirely possible Ainge wouldn't share anything about Hayward's plans even if he knew them, which he might not.

I’m realistic and fatalistic about things. If he’s there great, he would definitely be an addition and could be the X factor we need but I’ve reconciled myself to him not recovering in time or having to leave. In that case we will have to do it with who we have

I'll accept it either way - my expectations about Hayward have changed greatly since the original announcement of his leaving for his son's birth. The injury was a real gut punch, but the Cs have fought through it like champs. It would be incredible to have him back against [most of] the Heat and - if we make it that far - the Finals.

I had the same thought as bdm did in regards to Hayward's original intent of leaving for a few days, but now it would essentially mean he was missing most all of the playoffs. If he decides to stay in and we go to the Finals, I will give him a lot of credit. It's not an easy decision to make as a father, but it's possible that he sees this year as a real opportunity to win a Title and doesn't want to have any regrets. Besides, he did get to spend quite a bit of time with his family that no other player has.

Either way, let's hope the Cs can finish of this series and that Gordon can work his way back against the Heat. Even if he's hobbled, it can't be worse than having Semi out there.
