Passed away at age 86.  5 time champion as a player with the Celtics (including one of the most incredible shots in Finals history), coaching legend, and one of the more colorful characters in NBA history.

Longtime Celtic with his #19 retired in the rafters.  Hall of Fame coach for a bunch of memorable teams.  And seemingly a super nice guy.  He was part of my very earliest Celtics memories from the mid 70?s teams.

Part of championship teams in two different eras and got to finish his playing career on a title. Not many get to do this. RIP

That team gets forgotten a lot. They were the first team after the original, so comparisons were inevitable.  Right or wrong, they were seen as lesser show boaters.

One of my childhood favorites.  I liked a lot of the role players and Nelson was one of the most reliable.  Loved the foul shot.

Cooz has outlived a whole generation.

He actually just turned 98 over the weekend.

Sad to see his passing, was big fan of his. Even his non-Celtics teams he coached were a lot of fun to watch, and even if we don't like how the NBA has progressed, a lot of what we see in today's game has his finger-prints all over it.

I hope the Celtics organization doesn't drop the ball in recognizing him during the season. He's a huge part of Celtics history, and I think many in the present have forgotten that.
