Somebody wondered why Boston added another guard ... it's not that it needs guards, it needs shooters, guys who, if not great three-point shooters, are at least average from 3 and solid from the midrange, and West fits that bill. The two biggest needs last season, in my view, were lack of bigs, and lack of shooters. Boston now has Shaq and JO to help with the former, and West and Wafer to help with the latter. Most people focused on the poor rebounding — which was a legit issue — but the lack of good outside (even midrange) shooters was just about as big a problem; when Ray and Paul were out, there was little to stretch the floor until Nate joined the team late in the season — TA was horrible on 3s and even from midrange, and Quis wasn’t much better. Now the Cs have Nate, West and Wafer to stretch the floor for the bench. Yeah, if Pierce goes down, the Cs could be in trouble, but I guess you can only do so much preparing. At least Ainge has addressed the two biggest needs from last season.
