Guys going from all-star/high level starter athleticism to role playing veterans who had to move down a position to hang defensively.

Yuck.

It's not as career threatening an injury as it once was, chances are he comes back fully.
Guys do not come back the same, they just don't.

Its better than he's a lighter guy, but he's still big man at 7 feet....just sucks.
Yeah, I can't remember one guy who came back and performed at the same level as before.

Boogie is playing right now and he looks like a shell of his former self. I get that Boogie probably has 50lbs on Durant, but still.

Rudy Gay and Wes Matthews are good recent examples for optimism.

They may not be the same, but they are still very effective players after their Achilles tears.

If KD comes back to being 80% of what he usually is, that's still a top 25 player in the league.

Sabonis too

So next time we see Durant on the floor is the 2020-21 season with......

?????

He probably opts in for the $31.5 million next year in GSW, though he won't play there. But, there after, where will he be playing and for how much given the injury?

How much does this now cause teams that wanted Durant to now switch their focus to Anthony Davis?

Bingo

Oh man now I'm picturing Sabonis who couldn't move or jump. (still a fantastic passer and player but he was stiff with Portland)

Keep coming with the optimism!!

It was bush league when the Toronto fans were cheering Durant's injury. I know the players were p---ed to hear it, and I wonder if it was added fuel for the Golden State guys.

as a person who followed the Raptors since their inception, they fanbase has become toxic through the years.

There has always been the feeling with them that they get ignored by american media (with cause, they have sucked and have been boring to watch until this season since the Carter Days)
they drove Vince carter out of town, accusing him of giving out plays and intentionally getting hurt.

I quite even looking at their message boards back when Hayward got injured because over on Realgm alot of poster were cheering that then. Said Boston deserved it to happen to them.

And now this happening.

I said countless times here that I felt if Toronto were to go down, it would be because of Lowry. To his credit, he did have some good games in the ECF and has had 2 good games in the Finals so far.

However, that was abysmal from him late last night. Literally all the non-Kawhi players on the court look terrified to shoot, including Lowry. Had a good game until the final 3 minutes. Missed a few shots down the stretch that could have iced the game for TOR, including the final one (although yes, Draymond may have tipped it, but looking at replay it still didn't look like it affected the shot that much. It was still a bad shot and hit the side of the backboard).

I forgot if this was Lowry in particular, but someone drove to the hoop as the shotclock was expiring and then just heaved it to the perimeter where no one was there and basically it became a backcourt violation. I think that was Lowry but correct me if I'm wrong.

Kawhi did all he could near the end, but that ill-advised timeout really cost them as it allowed GSW to reset still down a manageable 6 points.

Set aside the achilles thing for a second.

What examples do we have of guys who were always tall enough to play PF/C but were quick enough and explosive enough to play the perimeter when they were younger and then transitioned to more of a pure power forward / sometimes center role later in their career?

Feels like Durant minus his supreme quickness and athleticism should still be a really difficult to guard 7 foot elite shooting PF/C.  But that's probably oversimplifying it.

He could become Dirk Nowitzki 2.0.

Yuck.

I mean, Wes Matthews, at 32, still moves like he's in top shape after an Achilles Tear.

And he can still put up a game winning putback.

And so does Rudy Gay.

I just think if these guys can put up games like these, after their Achilles tears, there's a lot of room for optimism that Kevin Durant will come back from it as well.

And congrats, GS, for ruining Durant's career. I'm no Durant/Warriors fan IN THE LEAST, but I hate seeing guys get injured.

Ya know they didn't hold a gun to his head, right?

Yeah, of course. But last night's events were weird to me from the get-go—all that I'd been hearing was that KD was a no-go for Game 5 ... until about an hour before gametime. Then suddenly he's ready to go? And they said he wasn't even gonna have a minutes restriction?

Yeah, he looked good up until getting hurt, but the play on which he got hurt was so innocuous-looking that it really makes me wonder what was truly going on with Durant's prior injury, and what was going on behind the scenes with the Warriors.

The scenario you present—Durant doesn't play, Warriors lose Game 5 and thus the Finals, then KD says he could've played and Warriors nation is livid—certainly has merit, but we should all know that a player saying he could've played doesn't mean he actually could've, or should've. Professional sports has a long list of instances in which a player said he was ready but really should've stayed out longer. At this point, none of us on the outside really knows the full behind-the-scenes picture for KD and the Warriors, but the fact that this injury is located so close to his previous injury, and the fact that KD's status for Game 5 changed so late and so suddenly, really give me pause.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

As a person who has followed the NBA for 14 years this Warriors Dynasty was built on beating injured teams, injuries to STARS on the opposing team nobody should feel any sympathy for the Warriors organization or their players.

The Warriors now cost Durant his free agency and possibly all of next year? Bob Myers is a terrible human being and everyone on that Warriors roster and organization are selfish greedy Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again.s who care about money more then a players health.

Raptors fans cheering for Durant's injury is not an evil, letting Durant play on a bad Achilles was THE TRUE EVIL.
