Hmmm..

Chris Fedor: A handful of former and current #Cavs have felt for a while that Kyrie Irving would end up in New York. One I talked to recently for my story said Brooklyn is most likely. Another said the Knicks. Another asked me where I thought and I said Boston. He give me the side eye haha. 3 hours ago – via Twitter ChrisFedor

There is no way Kyrie is going to the Knicks unless he knows for 100% certainty Durant is going there too.  And Durant going there makes no sense unless he knows that Kyrie is going there.  So why don't we here these rumors about Durant?

I think Durant does a good job of shutting down those rumours. Not participating with the media's rumour mongering.

Kyrie seems quite poor with the media. You would think he would be better with them by now. He has been around long enough. Had enough practice.

I think he's just sick of having to answer the question repeatedly because of external rumors. Here's the full interview, watch it and come to your own conclusion (may have been posted earlier, if so apologies):

https://youtu.be/CdmnCtEJx3I

He mentioned he spent the last 8 years trying to make other people happy and to do things they wanted him to do, now he wants to make his own decision and not be pressured into anything. So he kept his options open, said where he was leaning towards at this point, but refused to make a commitment. I think that's the best we can hope for and I still feel positive about our chances of re-signing him.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

At the same age as Kyrie is and even older,  Durant was an idiot with the media, social or otherwise. He created burner accounts on social media to argue with fans just 2 years ago. I think getting good and consistent with the media is something that is probably pretty difficult to do. Kyrie needs to get better at it.

Belichick should be hired as a consultant by the Sox and Celtics to teach players how to handle the media. There are a lot of young and not exactly Mensa candidates on the Patriots and they know exactly how to answer questions for the media.

Full transcript of his comments:

On speculation about his future, and whether he has wavered from his Boston commitment:

Quote
“Well, at the end of the day, I’m going to do what I feel is best for my career. And that’s just where it stands. My focus this season is winning a championship with the Boston Celtics. Obviously we had goals coming into this season, and the primary goal is to win a championship. So that’s where my focus is.”

On whether his mind-set has shifted from his original commitment:

Quote
“Ask me July 1 [when free agency begins].”

On the Knicks trading Kristaps Porzingis to the Mavericks, a deal that could allow New York to have space to sign two max-salary free agents this summer:

Quote
“I respect the Knicks organization. Obviously they’re making moves to position themselves for this upcoming summer. So I wish them the best.”

On the likelihood that Knicks fans will chant for him Friday night in New York:

Quote
“I started playing this game without the fans, without the money. So I’m just excited to play a game that I love and do it with my teammates.”

Has your message shifted?

Quote
“What do you mean?”

Before the season, you said you intended to re-sign with the Celtics. Now you’re saying to ask you on July 1:

Quote
“Nah, I’m just going to do what’s best for me. That’s what it really comes down to. Obviously this has become an entertainment thing for everybody. So somebody else is asking for a trade and I’m thrown into that, and uncertainty comes back on me.

“At the end of the day, I don’t live in this little hub. Some people call me about this dumb [expletive], and of course my name [keeps getting] thrown in this. I’m not worried about a reputation, I’m not worried about a legacy to leave. I’m just trying to be a human being, trying to make the best decision for me and my family.

“So obviously things this season haven’t gone as I planned, and that’s part of being on a team where you’re still trying to figure things out. So I’m always going to be mature about that, professional, come to do my job every single day and really just see what happens. And that’s what it really comes down to.”

On why he decided to announce in October that he’d remain a Celtic:

Quote
“I think it was just the excitement, feeling emotionally invested coming off an injury last season trying to prove something, trying to be very much of a team-oriented player, which I am naturally.

“But at the end of the day, I spent the last eight years trying to do what everybody else wanted me to do in terms of making my decisions and trying to validate through the media, through other personnel, managers, anybody in this business. And I don’t owe anybody [expletive].

“So for me, I think the confidence I have in myself and my abilities, I want to be able to control what I want to control. I still have confidence in Boston and what they can promise for the future and what we have in terms of our pieces.

“That’s what excited me a lot about the beginning of the season, was the opportunity to come into this season really just doing what we planned on doing, set a goal and go after it and then see what happens at the end of the season. That was the plan before and that’s still the plan now. Obviously Boston is still at the head of that race. That’s just where it stands.”

On facing internal pressure about his commitment:

Quote
“I mean, this is like college recruitment all over again. So, I don’t know, like, I don’t know. This is just weird. This is a new position for me to be in, answering all these questions, seeing all this stuff that I’m trying to avoid, and it’s just a distraction.

“It’s crazy how stories and things and story lines can seep into a locker room. You guys are part of the destruction of locker rooms. That’s just what it is.

“This is an entertainment industry. I don’t live for this entertainment. I don’t live for this talking to everybody every single day about my life and my decisions. I would just hope that everybody would respect that. That’s really basically it.

“I’m a normal human being at the end of the day. I don’t want to answer all these questions about my future all the time. You know, it’s unfair to me, because I have a focus to really help these guys grow as individuals and really help this team be successful. When it starts getting out of hand and people start getting attacked personally, he-said, she-said, that’s so fifth-grade and elementary.

“This industry is just so F’d up. Like, it’s my decision at the end of the day. Who cares who says what’s best for him? It doesn’t matter. It’s unwarranted commentary and of course it’s still going to continue throughout the season. I’m aware of that.

“I’m a professional at the end of the day. I’m not going to disrespect anybody, but like I said, it really comes down to what’s best for me and my family, so . . .”

Anyone hear Chris Mannix on Celtics pre-game?  He spoke with an ex-teammate of Irving who said that he hates nothing more than his name being attached to other players.  Apparently Irving hates the idea of orchestrating moves with other Superstars.

Kyrie post game just said that he said what he said about staying in Boston and it doesn't matter how concrete he says it and stands by it but, for some, it's just not enough.

He also stated again that he hates he is being dragged into the whole Davis, Lakers, Pels situation by people outside.

Sure sounds to me like a guy who standing by what he said last summer.

Kyrie Irving on the MSG chants tonight: “Nothing but a distraction at this point.”

Combined with all of the differing quotes today, this sure seems like Kyrie's frustration is primarily coming from all the unsubstantiated talk about his future rather than disappointment and frustration with the team. I'm sure he has been frustrated at points this season, but we've looked to turn a corner winning 8 of our last 9 and 12 of our last 16. All this talk about his future seems to be the primary agitator here.

That is a more consistent statement with his summer declaration.

I listened to the whole thing and it sounded to me like he was only backtracking off of what he said in October and is simply keeping his options open - which should probably have been his mindset all along. I did find Mannix's comments interesting.

See, this is exactly the point Kyrie was making.

Kyrie was pretty clear he hated being put in the middle of drama in other places in the NBA and that he stands by what he says about staying in Boston.

Then he said that it apparently doesn't matter how concrete he was on that, that people just believe what they want. Again, very clear.

You seem to only be doing what he says people are doing which is reading stuff into what saying that isn't there.

Nope. Just stating the truth. Stuff that's been said about him for a while. He hates when trade talks/free agency rumors between other players and teams drags him into the middle of the story for no reason. He says that is what is happening now and he hates it. Mannix said he was told this about Kyrie from a Cavs player a couple years ago.

I think I would be annoyed and frustrated too if outside people are spreading rumors about me relentlessly and getting involved with another entity when I've already given them the answer right from the beginning.

I'd let my season play out and wait until that certain day and then sign that extension to shut all these idiots up. Will be funny to see them get mind-blown over something that I publicly said months ago that shouldn't even come as a surprise.

Honestly, if they keep pushing the agenda that he's going elsewhere and it frustrates Kyrie, then Kyrie is 100% staying.

As for the Anthony Davis rumor, just let it be. If he goes to Lakers then whatever. If he's still here by June then whatever, go after him.

I think that's exactly what he was thinking when he told that reporter to ask him on July 1st, you know, the date when the Celtics will announce they have re-signed Kyrie to a 5 year max contract
