The celts are going to get screwed by this rule. Just not the same value to trade for a bunch of players (I.e., picks) than the picks themselves.
I mean, if the celts had far and away the best package then maybe the pelicans would wait. But they don’t. Ingram, ball, and kizma close to our best offer even if we include Tatum.
Don't think this is true in any sense of the term. Our best offer could literally be something like Tatum, Brown, Williams, Rozier (S&T), Sac Pick, Memphis pick, LAC pick, and other picks or pick swaps of our own picks. LA's offer comes nowhere near that value.
Plus, you have to think of what that would set Davis up for long-term. Lebron is 34 and his body is now starting to show his age, with this year suffering the worst injury of his career. He'll be 35 by the time next season starts, and with as many miles as he has on his body, it's only going to get worse for him. Sure, they might be able to land another guy this summer through free agency, but they'll have virtually nothing left assets-wise to fill out that roster, as they will have to go all-in to get AD before the trade deadline. Long-term he's only marginally closer to winning a title in LA than he is in NOLA.
Boston, on the other hand, will still have assets left after the trade and a near All-Star starting five in Kyrie, Smart, Hayward, Davis, and Al.
