#NBA Celtics - The framework that Danny Ainge has offered the Pelicans (player wise) is Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, G. Yabusele, and Robert Williams for Anthony Davis. David Griffin is using the Lakers for “leeway” to receive more draft picks in any deal from Boston.
If that’s true - he’s probably trying to get the Memphis pick out of this, as well. Can’t imagine that he’ll get it though, as that’s a lot to risk.
No it's not. Who cares about draft picks? They're trade chips anyway. Just get the deal done.
Huh? Were the third picks in 2016 (Brown) and 2017 (Tatum) also just trade chips that nobody cared about? Keeping the Memphis pick allows us to still have a likely high draft pick to potentially hit on if AD leaves.
maybe it is a high draft pick. It might be 10th. It might be 14th. Heck maybe in some miracle Morant is a monster and Jackson takes a huge leap and they make the playoffs. the only guarantee is that Boston is not getting a top 6 pick next year. And for the record, this year the team picking 7th was the 4th worst team in the league and won 22 games.
You realize that if the holder of the #7 pick was the 4th worst team in the NBA, that means 3 teams that finished outside the bottom 4 jumped? So by your logic, and as the Lakers lottery demonstrates, the Griz could make that leap finish 12th or whatever worst and pick 4th, which would give us an unprotected 1st in this new unpredictable environment the next year.
The Memphis pick is insanely volatile, but your own logic about who lands what pick disproves your bearish assessment of its upside.
