There's a couple of concepts at play here called "market" & "leverage".

I'm pretty sure the market for AD, given what interested teams are able to actually offer for him,  doesn't necessitate the need to include both Brown & Tatum in a package.

From a leverage standpoint, the closer we get to AD's impending FA, the leverage that NO has to demand both dwindles & dwindles, since the ultimate worse case scenario for them is AD leaving for nothing.

I agree with this... we aren't the ones under the gun... NO is. There are a myriad of players available in FA for us to reform the team and take another swing

here is a related post from Pelicans blog:

https://www.thebirdwrites.com/2019/5/8/18535803/2019-nba-lottery-zion-morant-pelicans-anthony-davis-trade-jayson-tatum-sabonis-celtics-tobias-harris

No mention of brown.

Or Smart.   I think the trade idea is good for Boston (if Kyrie signs).   Boston keeps both Smart and Brown and go into the season looking at Davis, Horford, Brown/Morris (SF), Smart/ Brown (SG) and KI as possible starting lineup.  If Davis should bolt at season's end, Horford comes off the books and C's have serious cap space.  I think this trade may be the lowest risk of all scenarios.  I'm not sure C's would need to give up all their picks (except their own) as in the proposed deal. I love keeping Smart and Brown.  MLE can focus on a sharpshooter.  Also Williams stays in the proposed deal.  Reasonable gamble for Indy to give up Sabonis and get Hayward.

I think something like this would work.

Detroit needs wing help, and are strong up front currently.

Nop wants to save money and add youth/picks.

So.

Option a:
Detroit trades drummond, luerer, galloway
Gets hayward, baynes terry s&t starting 12 -14 mill per season.

Detroit adds 2 upgrades at wing spots at the cost of a downgrade at the c spot.
(Can drop rozier and gallaway and add a second from boston)

To the pels
Luerer, tatum, yabusele, williams, lac pick, memphis pick, 2019 boston 2nd, 2020 boston first.

Nop saves money immediately, luerer is an expiring deal, add a couple young very high potential guys.

Boston deals
Hayward, tatum, williams, yabusele all pick except Bostons own 2019 and the sacramento pick.

Sign Beverley to mle.
Carter to lle.
Resign morris
Vet min bigman for depth.

Horford comes off bench as a super 6th man.

Irving/beverley/wannamaker
Smart/carter/draft
Brown/morris/semi
Davis/horford/min player
Drummond/theis/draft

The Lakers offered the farm for Davis and the Pelicans literally refused.

But sure, lets keep talking about how Kuzma and Hart + Picks is MILES ahead of Tatum + Picks  ::)

You can say Tatum's value has gone down, but I think Ingram's has as well (blood clots) and so has Lonzo's (especially with a lot of the off-the-court drama involved with him).

I think the only problem is if NYK gets the #1 pick and offers Zion in a trade for AD. But I also think NYK would rather keep Zion and go hard after KD + 1 of Kemba/Kyrie.

If we do trade for AD, I think there is one reason to be optimistic he might stay in Boston beyond the upcoming season

It's safe to say LA is his desired destination, however if both the Lakers and Clippers acquire a max player this summer (which I think they will) then they won't have the cap space to sign AD in the summer of 2020. Ditto for the Knicks if they get Kyrie and Durant.

Therefore by process of elimination, Boston will be able to offer him the most money. Correct?

I don't think Lakers nor Clippers will unless its for Leonard

Lakers will sit tight until AD becomes a FA

these guys make so much money off shoes etc. Don't think that one extra year will be a dealbreaker

There is zero chance that the Lakers waste another year of LeBron to wait for AD. They got a new GM and coach and will be looking to add major parts this summer. It is, conceivably, very likely gpap is 100% correct that the Lakers won't have cap space in the summer of 2020 to sign Davis.

That went into my thought process. I suppose the Lakers could wait another year for Davis, but Lebron's clock is ticking and they'll be desperate to add somebody with the max this summer. A big advantage for the Celts (hopefully) in the Davis sweepstakes.

Lakers can try to sign a marquee FA

but the reality is that nobody other than AD wants to play with Lehog, Ledrama

maybe this Kyrie rumor is true

Lakers org is a mess right now

Yeah, but there's other free agents that could be interested in playing there for the max

Kemba, Butler, etc.

I suppose Kawhi is a possibility (though I think he either stays in Toronto or signs with the Clippers.)

Or they could use their cap space on signing two mid-tier free agents (Danny Green, Cousins, Bogdanovic, Deandre Jordan, etc.)
