I hope this is just a precaution and nothing long term.
The concussion protocol is not a precaution. He'll have league-mandated hurdles he'll need to clear before he's allowed to return to basketball activities.

Here's a useful article from about this time last season when Horford was out.
http://www.nbcsports.com/boston/boston-celtics/with-al-horford-out-nba-concussion-protocol-explained

Also, suffering two concussions in one year is already "something long-term" and rather concerning. Just ask Mark Savard.

So, despite the long winded waffle in that article, he needs to pass a concussion test, and be cleared by a doctor. Which is extremely standard.

Whilst I agree that repeat concussions could be a concern depending on their severity, your penchant for immediately jumping to the most negative outcome in any situation is evident by mentioning Marc savard. The meaty part of Kent bazemore's arm coming down on horford's head after a pump fake and what happened to savard on the hockey ice on multiple occasions aren't even in the same stratosphere.

Relax.
Yeah, thought the Savard comp was Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing hilarious.

Like next time a player sprains an ankle we should point to Hayward and say "ankle injuries can be tough to recover from"

Sounds like it's more of a precautionary/minor thing than anything.

His presence at the game would also seem to be a good sign. Last time he couldn't even sit in a lighted room for awhile.

not feelin good about this game. horford's presence will be severely missed, specifically on the offensive end.

I've never been a big "horford guy" but i'll be the first to admit he's been our best player in every game. defensively he's been a stud but I do think the guys filling in for him tonight should be able to rise to the occasion. the things he does offensively though will be difficult to replicate.

unfortunate his absence is coming against LA. the positive is at least we've got some wins under our belt before this happen as I think we are going to struggle without him no matter who we face.

how long is a player forced to be out for a "concussion protocol"?

Woj also just reported that there's significant optimism regarding Al. Says symptoms are much less severe than last year, and he's not expected to miss much time.

First thing comes to mind is the Zeller snuck in the training facility and elbowed Horford. ;D

Good to hear this concussion is nothing serious. Hopefully he can come back before the Warriors game.

Need a big for the DPE. With the way Baynes and Theis throw their bodies around and Horford out we could be in trouble.

dont forget Tatum might be out for a while to heal his ankle. He’s in a boot tonight. That makes getting any player a little more important
