Finally, someone has the bravery to address Marcus Smart's shooting on these forums!
Finally??
I had to come in just to see if this was a new conversation or one of many older ones.

"Never" is generally a bad word to use in player evaluation.  I wouldn't bet money that Smart will be a knockdown shooter but it's hardly impossible.  Players have made bigger shooting leaps in the past.
name that person.  Find me a player that got consistent playing time with a consistent and good volume of shots, that after years of being a poor shooter all of a sudden turned it around.

This is just active players and just dudes I could think of off the top of my head.

Kyle Lowry, first five seasons

Barton has only been in the league 5 years, so I'm not sure where you are getting your numbers from.

Lowry and Walker look like good ones.  I had asked this before and no one could name anyone, but they could work.

Evans had dropped off a lot this year, his one year appears to be a fluke.

With Arthur not shooting at all, hard to say on him.  Plus he plays so little and really hasn't shot that many 3's, I don't find him particularly comparable.

Thanks for Lowry and Walker.  That does provide some hope that Smart might actually figure it out.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Oh right, it's the way things are written on BR. These are the correct numbers

Will Barton, first five seasons
1 12.2 MPG, .9 3PA, 13.8 3P%
2 9.4 MPG, .8 3PA, 30.3 3P%
3 16.9 MPG, 1.5 3PA, 27.1 3P%
4 28.7 MPG, 4.0 3PA, 34.5 3P%
5 28.9 MPG, 3.7 3PA, 36.4 3P%

Evans had dropped off a lot this year, his one year appears to be a fluke.

Evans is still only down to ~34%, after averaging sub-30 over 6 years on high volume.  He's probably not a 38.8% guy, but still improved significantly.

Thanks for Lowry and Walker.  That does provide some hope that Smart might actually figure it out.

Still wouldn't bet money on it, but never say never.

I plugged in the historical numbers a bit, and Chauncy Billups/Joe Johnson are also decentish comps.

Ron Artest is another guy who started out was pretty bad on pretty high volume but eventually went 5 years in a row over 35% from deep.

Also, I think 5 years ago Marcus Smart would just be told not to shoot threes. Then maybe if he developed his shot enough hed be allowed/encouraged to take them.

In brads system in todays NBA youve got to be willing to take 3s even if you arent making them.
