Here's the actual bright side:

If Cousins can go for Hield and an okay, but not great first, the asking prices for George and Butler have to lower, right?  Because what Chicago wants for Butler is triple what New Orleans paid for DMC.

I think Butler for a package excluding the BKN 17 is a realistic goal now.

Well, I think Ainge and Brad didn't want him potentially messing everything up. That's the main point I think and I understand.

I wouldve taken the risks still though.

Yeah, I would have hated to see our non-contender disrupted.

Stay the course. This may not be our year, but the '20's may be our decade.

... said every team with consecutive lottery picks, ever.

How many teams with consecutive top-5 picks (in DEEP drafts) are already 50+ game winners?

Those that are okay with not being in the discussions, need to take off the homer glasses.

I would trade one of any of the 15 players on this roster, plus the brooklyn pick for Demarcus.

Attitude aside, no one on this team has the POTENTIAL to be a top 5 talent in the league; while people agree unanimously that Cousins is.

This is not a good day.

Who is he exactly? A guy who puts up huge raw stats on bad teams? Most who know him say he can't be a leader, and thus why Sacramento has been such a failure with him and ultimately decided to deal him for half what he's worth.

Lakers reportedly refused to include Ingram. Celtics wouldn't give up too much. Fans aren't GM's for a reason. They have inside info, we have twitter "leaks."

I wanted him, and this hurts a bit, but nothing like not getting KD. That would have been for nothing and he's a good character guy. This would have cost us something substantial and he's a malcontent.

Right. Because the Pelicans paid a Kings ransom for Cousins? Ohh wait...

I wonder if Davis gave New Orleans an ultimatum to find him help or he wants out. They've been awfully aggressive in the past couple of weeks.

What kills me is the timing of this. It seems like this just popped up out of the blue in the last couple of days, and they made a franchise-altering trade on a whim. I wonder if Vlade and the other owners just really wanted to push through a trade when Vivek was actually in a "mood" where he'd trade Cousins lol

Don't you find the spontaneity of this really weird? There's WAY more to this story than we currently know. Something had to have happened over the weekend that changed the Kings management's minds on resigning him. I have a feeling that in the coming weeks we are going to realize we dodged a bullet.

Yeah, the guys who've built a 48 win playoff team clearly don't understand basketball as some guys on a message board.

I'm listening to some doofus on ESPN just flat out blame the Kings for everything and actually compared the Pelicans to Golden State.  Words fail me.

Mike

Danny and Brad aren't infallible. Hell, Brad - despite his deity status - has yet to win a playoff series.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
EDIT: Aldridge misreported, Kings asked for the 2019 1st and got shot down lol.

Lakers also reportedly refused to include Ingram. Real bargain sale, after all that.

It's hard to see a Butler trade happening now after this. If the return isn't going to be anywhere near where they want it to be, then I'm not sure they actually go that route now. Also, the fact that this happened so quick hurts us, too, because now there's not even really an appearance of another team out there seriously in play for the Brooklyn pick with a star.

I really don't see how Cousins trade value directly impacts Butler's trade value.  They are different players, different teams, different positions, different level of effort and attitude.

Let's give our organization the benefit of the doubt. If Brad didn't want him in the locker room, and I'm sure they talked to IT4 about him, I'm sure they had good reason to not give up on their assets.

I wouldn't fault a team for believing in their highest draft pick in 20 years and their top pick in a loaded draft the next two seasons.

Cousins is a good talent. But, he's shooting 45% with 4 turnovers a game on a team that hasn't made the playoffs since he arrived there. He is a nuisance in the locker room, constantly picks up technicals, and basically loses as many games with his temper/actions/suspensions as he wins with his talent.

I like him and wish we got him. But I'll trust the organization that built our treasure chest to not unload it on someone they didn't love.

Gosh, I hate to be that guy, but we're never going to unload it. #keepallourpicksandassetsforever

Yeah maybe he will keep them all. Maybe he won't. It's a question that may be answered in 4 days. Or this summer. Or next February. Or next June/July. We won't know until it happens.

Ainge has done a good job thus far. I don't think he was asleep at the wheel tonight.

I guess if the Celtics just don't like the guy, then it is what it is.  But I feel like we could have beaten that offer and still underpaid substantially.

Disappointing.

I think what's being overlooked here is that his agent said that he will NOT be signing an extension with whomever he's traded to.

This is what I have been asking!!!  If he isn't signing an extension, then it is a pretty risky deal for a brief rental.

This whole "popped up so quickly" stuff seems fairly ridiculous. Just because the media didn't know about discussions going on before today doesn't mean that the Pels and Kings hadn't been having talks for weeks. I seriously doubt that this trade was put together in just the few hours some are hinting that it happened in.

Supposedly the recent tech suspension and his incident with the Golden State Warriors fan is what put Vivek on edge about resigning him. But honestly, I think he's just fickle and started feeling the pressure from the other owners who weren't so sure about that $200M deal.

But you're right. This did come out of nowhere all of a sudden, and it just points to the dysfunction that thrives over there.

This is the equivalent of the school playground where Dell is the school bully who just found the mentally slow weak kid and took his lunch money.

All indications are that we didn't even inquire.

Unless those picks turn into All-NBA players, it doesn't matter does it?

We're a team with one star. Our second best player is old. We have a ton of guys who have bargain contracts that are up in the next two seasons.

Our window to become a contender is this trade deadline and next off-season. After that our financial flexibility evaporates.
